It’s been just three months since Mumbai-based event agency Gigatainment – run by veteran jazz pianist Louiz Banks’ son Neil – hosted their online showcase for Guitar Fest and now they’re back with their longstanding Piano Day event this weekend.
The annual event has been held at Mumbai’s National Centre of Performing Arts since 2016, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic Gigatainment has decided to take the show online and folks can tune in to watch it on September 12th and 13th at 7 pm via Skillbox.
The lineup – curated by Louiz – includes himself as well as artists such as Englishman Gary Husband (multi-instrumentalist for musicians John McLaughlin, Quincy Jones, Al Jarreau and Jeff Beck), Australian whammy clavinet player Lachy Doley, composer Berenice Scott and American musician Myron McKinley who has performed with everyone from Stevie Wonder to Chaka Khan, the Backstreet Boys and Earth Wind & Fire.
Indian artists on the bill include the likes of Stephen Devassy, child prodigy Lydian Nadhaswaram, jazz pianist Anurag Naidu, Gulrag Singh, Tanmay Deochake and Sharik Hasan.
With music instrument manufacturers Roland coming on board to partner with Piano Day this year, Gigatainment could bring to the table Roland exclusive musicians for the show. Neil says, “Thanks to them we have been able to have artists such Myron McKinley, Gary Husband and Berenice Scott.”
