Irish post-rock band God Is An Astronaut will headline the inaugural edition of Hibernate festival in Mumbai on May 10th, taking place at Dublin Square in Phoenix Marketcity.

Joining the lineup for Hibernate are post-rock bands like aswekeepsearching, Mushroom Lake and The Reasonable Hope, plus alternative act Corner Café Chronicles and Pune-origin prog band Lotus. The event is produced by Bengaluru-based entertainment management company Bohemian Entertainment, in association with the platform WherePostRockDwells.

God Is An Astronaut, the seasoned post-rock torchbearers comprising Niels Kinsella, Torsten Kinsella and Lloyd Hanney are coming back to India for their second show, after headlining Bacardi NH7 Weekender in Pune in 2018. While they released their most recent album Ghost Tapes #10 in 2021, the band is expected to release new music in 2024 along with several shows around the world, including India.

The band’s co-founder Torsten Kinsella said in a 2021 interview with Rolling Stone India, “We had a great time playing in India [in 2018] and did not expect that kind of audience that would know our music. It was probably one of our favorite shows to go and play.”

Hibernate’s head of bookings Shree Priya says in a statement, “Witnessing their mesmerizing performance at NH7 in Pune back in 2018 left me completely spellbound. Ever since, I’ve had a strong desire to work with them, and this opportunity couldn’t have been more optimal.”

Festival founder Sarthak Kulshrestha adds in his statement, “As a fan of post-rock, I have always wanted to curate a festival solely dedicated to this genre. When we booked God is an Astronaut, we were sure they had to headline our debut edition, given their status as pioneers. Our intention now is to make this an annual event.”

Tickets for Hibernate are currently priced at ₹999 in the early bird phase, with next phase prices set at ₹1,299 and ₹1,499.
