Goo Goo Dolls have postponed their shows in South Africa after singer John Rzeznik was hospitalized with pneumonia. Reznik announced the news in a video from his hospital bed, apologizing for the sudden change in plans.

“I’m truly sorry that I cannot be there, but I wound up going to the doctor and I have pneumonia, and they checked me into the hospital,” Rzeznik said in the Instagram video. “I’m stuck here for a day or two. But we’re working on getting back down there as fast as we can. I’m just really sorry that we couldn’t do this. I apologize that this happened.”

The band was scheduled to perform in Cape Town, Durban, and Pretoria this week but the shows have now been postponed until March 25, March 27 and March 29, respectively. Ticket holders will receive more information about how to confirm they can attend the new dates or obtain a refund.

“We’re heartbroken to postpone our South Africa shows,” the band added in the post. “This country means so much to us, and we were so excited to create more memories with you.”

Goo Goo Dolls’ next scheduled gig is Dec. 14 in Naples, Florida, for the Live Fest, before heading to New York to perform at the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort Casino on Jan. 4. Rzeznik is also included in the lineup for Bob’s Birthday Bash at WinterFest 2025 on Jan. 18, before the band touches down in Australia for a run of shows in February and March.
