GOT7’s Yugyeom Joins Jay Park’s AOMG
The vocalist and dancer will be part of a vibrant roster featuring South Korea’s leading hip-hop and R&B acts, including Lee Hi, Simon Dominic, GRAY and more
GOT7’s youngest member Yugyeom is all set to begin his journey as a solo artist under hip-hop star Jay Park’s label AOMG. After GOT7 announced their departure from JYP Entertainment last month, rumors arose that Yugyeom was in talks to sign with AOMG, known for their roster featuring some of South Korea’s most prominent hip-hop and R&B artists. After a long silence from all parties involved, the label confirmed today that the vocalist would begin his solo activities with them.
The announcement comes a day after AOMG released a 20-second snippet, giving the audience a glimpse of their new recruit. The promotional video captioned, “Coming Up Next AOMG,” takes a low-angle shot of Yugyeom, forming a silhouette and leaving the audience wondering about the identity of the new artist.
AOMG then took an unconventional route to announce the news, unveiling Yugyeom performing a dance cover of Travis Scott’s 2020 track “Franchise” featuring Young Thug and M.I.A. Speaking about the association, the label commented, “Yugyeom is officially signed with AOMG to take a new step together. Please keep your eyes out on Yugyeom’s various musical activities with AOMG.”
GOT7 mutually agreed upon not renewing their contract with JYP Entertainment in January 2021, marking the end of a seven-year long partnership. Following these events, member Jackson Wang’s homegrown label, Team Wang, and Sublime Agency announced their collaboration, while vocalist Jinyoung has joined BH Entertainment to support his career as a musician and actor. Sublime Agency also roped in GOT7 vocalist Youngjae as one of the artists they will represent. On the other hand, the group’s rapper Mark independently collaborated with Bangladeshi-American EDM producer Sanjoy on a single titled “One In A Million.” GOT7’s leader JB and rapper BamBam have yet to announce associations with any labels.
