A Grime Riot Disco night in full swing at H20 in Mumbai

Delhi seems to have a thing for underground parties. Most recently, it was Dubfire’s secret set that had the capital on a high. This month, it is the Delhi edition of popular dance music night, Grime Riot Disco (GRD), which, according to its poster will be held at a secret location in the capital. GRD made its Delhi debut last year, but unlike its Mumbai counterpart that seeks to revive old venues, the Delhi gig took place at Haus Khas’ popular music venue, T.L.R Cafe. Though co-organiser Kunal Lodhia is careful not to reveal much, he says, “The venue will be revealed on the day of the gig. All I can say is that this won’t be an established place, it’s kind of off-the-radar and will work well for a pop-up party.”

Grime Riot Disco, which started off as a monthly dance music series two years ago in Mumbai, was put on hold in Delhi after its debut due to logistical issues. However, Lodhia hopes to make it more than an annual affair there. “We will try and work out the logistics if all goes well,” he says. The upcoming gig will follow Mumbai’s entry policy wherein attendees will need to RSVP on the event’s Facebook page and pay a nominal entry charge at the venue.

Like the unannounced venue of the gig, which is slated to take place on May 3rd, the lineup too is kept under cover with only the international act revealed (UK’s beatdown disco-house DJ Kindness aka Adam Bainbridge will perform) and will only be announced on the day of the event. “The venue’s quite small, so we are looking at no more than 150 people. But it will have great sound with some of the best DJs from Delhi on the lineup,” confirms Lodhia, adding that four to five artists will be on the bill.

UPDATE: Grime Riot Disco- Delhi featuring Kindness, Gaurav Malaker (BLOT!), Tapan Raj (Midival Punditz), Moniker (Wild City DJ) and Eng (Wetheppl DJ) will take place on May 3rd at Audio Jewellers, Chattarpur. For details, click here
