Kansas-born acoustic guitarist Andy McKee announced that he will perform at IIT Kanpur’s Techkriti festival on March 8th. McKee, who is will tour UK later this month to promote his new EP Mythmaker, is best known for his 2006 song “Drifting,” which gained over 48 million views on YouTube, earning a spot among the earliest viral videos on the website.

McKee updated his tour page on his website yesterday, confirming his show in Kanpur saying, “I am pleased to be a part of Techkriti ’14 with the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. This is my FIRST time ever in India. I’ll play as many tunes as I can and it will be rocking!” McKee also posted about the India show on his Facebook page, adding that his booking agency has received more offers to perform in the country “for later this year and 2015.” McKee adds, “I’ll be back for a tour before long.” Following his show at IIT Kanpur, McKee kicks off his UK tour in London on March 11th.

McKee has released five albums and one EP, and is currently readying his second EP, Mythmaker, for release this month. In an interview with Guitar World magazine last month, McKee said Mythmaker went beyond his usual style of altered tunings, percussive hits and tapping. “It’s got a solo baritone guitar piece, a solo piece on standard guitar, and it’s actually got a solo piano piece, too. [”¦]There’s also a track with piano, guitar, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar.”

Andy McKee performs at Open Air Theater, IIT Kanpur on March 8th, 2014 from 7.30 pm onwards. Entry: TBD.
