Guru Randhawa and Raja Kumari Announce ‘In Love’ Collab
The Punjabi hitmaker is composer and lyricist with Raja Kumari singing in Punjabi for the first time on the song, slated to release on May 9th
Indo-American singer-songwriter and rapper Raja Kumari sings in Punjabi for the first time with hitmaker Guru Randhawa on their upcoming song “In Love,” which releases on May 9th via T-Series.
The “HBIC” and “City Slums” artist is singing with the “Suit Suit” and “Moon Rise” Punjabi artist taking on composing and lyric writing for the song. The duo have also shot a music video that takes listeners to the heart of Punjab.
Randhawa says in his statement, “Collaborating with Raja Kumari on ‘In Love’ has been an exciting journey of creativity and exploration. Her unique vocals bring a musical fusion to my composition, that I believe will leave a lasting impact on listeners everywhere. Her passion and dedication to her craft is truly inspiring, and I believe our fans are going to love what we’ve created together.”
Raja Kumari adds in her statement, “Collaborating with Guru on ‘In Love’ has allowed me to explore new horizons in my musical journey. Music knows no boundaries, and I believe that by blending our unique styles, we’ve created something truly special that resonates with audiences on a profound level. I’ve always admired his work, and being able to lend my voice to his composition in Punjabi has been both challenging and rewarding.”
The new song comes right after Randhawa’s “AK47” single as well as his turn as a lead actor in the Hindi romantic comedy Kuch Khattaa Ho Jaay, whose soundtrack he also sang, composed and wrote lyrics for. In 2023, Randhawa also released his album G Thing.
Raja Kumari, for her part, just released a “Juice” remix by DJ-producer KSHMR in April and has been part of movie songs such as the title track from 2023 action flick Jawan composed by Anirudh Ravichander, plus “Sherni Aayi” from the series Aarya 3. In 2023, Kumari released her debut album The Bridge via her label Godmother Records.
Collaborations aren’t exactly a new route for either Randhawa or Kumari, so it was perhaps a matter of time before they showed up on each other’s radars. Kumari, for her part, has also worked with Punjabi stars like the late Sidhu Moose Wala, appearing on the song “US” from his 2021 album Moosetape.
Randhawa, for his part, told Rolling Stone India in a 2022 interview about collaborations, “I think collaborations just happen. You end up meeting people who are just like you and who want to work with you or, conversely, you want to work with, and I think that’s how the biggest Indian or international collaborations have happened.”
