It’s the twice the heavy this March as two of the country’s death metal frontrunners – Mumbai band Gutslit and Hyderabad act Godless – head out on the second edition of their Eviscerating India Tour. The nine-city tour kicks off on March 20th in Bengaluru and concludes in Kolkata on April 26th.

Gutslit bassist and founder Gurdip Singh Narang, along with Godless’ bassist Abbas Razvi – who put together the first edition of Eviscerating India for May last year – began working on round two in November last year. “I guess we had it in our heads right at the end of round one that we need to do this again,” Narang says.

The Eviscerating India Tour will also stop by Pune (March 27th), Mumbai (March 29th), New Delhi (April 10th), Hyderabad (April 19th) and Imphal (April 23rd). Two new stops on this tour include Jaipur (April 12th) and Guwahati (April 24th). Both bands agree that even within a year, the touring scenario has changed in the country, but their previous associations with promoters and venues made for smoother planning. Razvi says, “This time around we didn’t really need to explain to the promoters regarding the tour since they already had us over the last year or had heard of the tour last year.”

With specific dates in hand, Gutslit and Godless say that event turnouts are still a concern, even though both bands have often drawn a packed house on their own. Razvi says, “The promoters are really finding it hard to pull off gigs now since the turnouts seem to be reducing.” Narang adds, “Once we overcome that and we are able to get turnouts at shows, everything else becomes easy.”

There’s not as many consecutive shows as they’d have liked to play, but that too remains difficult to put together. Nevertheless, the bands are treating it as a way to close out their previous record cycles – Gutslit released Amputheatre in 2017 and Godless released Swarm EP in 2018. Although there aren’t any new releases tied to the tour, Gutslit – now completed by guitarist Vigneshkumar Venkatraman – will be releasing their next album later in 2020.

Narang says, “Gutslit will be belting out new songs from the upcoming album and testing them out in this run. We will try to play them all over the tour. But I guess we will mix and match the setlist at every city. So if you are lucky enough, you might get to hear the new tracks in your city.”

Razvi adds that Godless have their debut full-length album in the works for late 2020 or early next year. Following up from last year, both Gutslit and Godless will also embark on separate international tours. “Gutslit will have a tour of Europe which is lined up for November/December. [It’s the] first time in our lives we’ll be playing the winter months. Time to finally use those hoodies we’ve been collecting since years.” For now, local support, venue details and tickets for the rest of their India tour is expected to be up soon.
