Gutslit Set for Asia Tour in September

Joined by German death metallers Stillbirth, the Mumbai band will head eastwards to 12 countries between September and October

Since the release of their 2017 album Amputheatre, Mumbai brutal death metal band Gutslit have already played across Europe and now they’re racking up the total geographical coverage to 18 countries in September. The Gutted at Birth Asia Tour (subtitled as “Bobs and Vagene edition”) kicks off on September 21st in Dubai and makes its way to India, Nepal, Cambodia and all the way to Taiwan, Japan and South Korea, in what is arguably a first for an Indian extreme metal band.

Bassist and founder Gurdip Singh Narang says, “What I’ve learned is that we have some balls to program shows so close to each other and trust the aviation system of a dozen different countries to make sure we land in one piece with our equipment with us every single time and play the shows.”

It’s a gamble all right, but with Stillbirth on board and tour dates running until October 7th, there’s been a lot in the making. It’s been a steady build-up from the contacts and networking Narang has been doing previous European sojourns. He says a lot of trust has been accrued which led to support from the likes of Stillbirth. “Because I trusted them [international promoters] and gave my 100 percent to my commitments and word, every single time. I’m hoping the same streak goes on and my hours and hours of planning gets executed right.”

The next thing that needs figuring out, inevitably, is funding for travel and visas for the tour. With a funding page up for a goal of $5,000, Narang says the band has always been “in negative [balance of accounts] since day one,” but they don’t want the band to become “an expensive hobby.” They’ve gone up to $575 at the time of print, but there’s also been increased merchandise sales. The band says in their campaign note, “Contributions even as little as $10 will go a long way in helping us.”
