Han So-hee Feels Uneasy About Her ‘Gyeongseong Creature’ Portrayal. Here’s Why

Han So-hee is awaiting the release of Gyeongseong Creature with bated breath. According to Korean media outlets, the actress has voiced her worries over how she performed in the drama.

Starring Park Seo-joon, Han So-hee, Soo Hyun, Kim Hae-sook, Jo Han-chul, and Wi Ha-joon, the upcoming web series is penned by Kang Eun-kyung and directed by Jeong Dong-yun.

Set in the springtime of 1945, it captures Gyeongseong (an older name for Seoul) amid the bleak backdrop of Japan’s colonization of Korea—a point when Jang Tae-sang (Park) and Yoon Chae-ok (Han) must contend with an enigmatic monster born out of greed for them to survive.

Tae-sang is an aristocrat noted for his enviable profile. Given his rapid responses, sharp perception, and gregarious nature, he is a reliable source of information in the area.

Chae-ok is famed for her ability to locate lost people. When she was younger, her father frequently took her on trips between Shanghai and Manchuria. She was fighting an uphill battle at the time, and a crisis prompted her to acquire survival skills, including handling knives, shooting targets, and operating machines.

Chae-ok’s mother went missing a decade ago. In a bid to track her down, she visits Gyeongseong, where she meets Tae-sang.

Han So-hee characterized Chae-ok as active and adaptive in a report for E Daily. She said that while Chae-ok’s outward displays are of toughness and determination—to accomplish her goal—she suppresses a wide range of emotions. The drama also delves deeply into Tae-sang’s process of breaking through Chae-ok’s emotional walls.

Han, 29, merits all the praise for her performance prowess. Whether she plays a lone wolf, a villainous woman, a troubled high school student, a heroic warrior, or a regular girl, she perpetually turns forth exceptional acting on screen.

With her lead role in My Name (2021) as Yoon Ji-woo, Han secured her place in the realm of formidable K-drama heroines, spotlighting her action exploits. She came across as a dominant force with intriguing flair, willpower, and command. Even so, she feels uneasy about how she has fared with such a distinguished ensemble of actors and characters in Gyeonseong Creature, where she will once again be seen in action sequences.

When playing a character, Han So-hee is typically the one who challenges limitations. She’s expressed her concerns about how she performed before; for her, acting is about being true to oneself notwithstanding looks and becoming fully immersed in a role to evoke authenticity.

This time, in an opulent production like Gyeonseong Creature, she hopes that her portrayal will enhance the action and her screen time with Park as they team up together to confront the evil while Chae-ok tries to piece together what’s missing to locate her mother in an unsettling, dubious Gyeongseong hospital housing both humans and creatures.

Gyeongseong Creature will be released in two parts, the first on December 22, 2023, and the second on January 5, 2024, only on Netflix.
