Punjabi Star Harnoor Turns on the Charm with New Song ‘Wajah’
The latest from the singer features production from Punjabi music’s mainstay Mxrci and lyricist Karan Thabal
Amritsar-born singer Harnoor gets into loverboy mode on his latest single “Wajah,” which has the artist crooning to get close, with production from Punjabi hip-hop and R&B music’s prolific beatsmith Mxrci and lyrics by Karan Thabal.
Harnoor, who has steadily shot into millions of streams and drawn comparisons to artists like AP Dhillon with songs like “Waalian” and “Moonlight,” plus the release of his 2021 album 8 Chances. Earlier in March this year, he released RHYMEDY EP, with breezy songs like “Need Ya.” With “Wajah,” however, he turns up with throaty R&B and rap-like vocals. Even as Mxrci chooses to open with summery acoustic-pop elements, the producer delves into groovy beats soon enough, with a bit of a drill influence.
Harnoor said that given where he’s reached in his journey so far, “Wajah” motivated him to explore beyond his signature style in terms of a love song. He adds in his statement, “I am overwhelmed by the incredible love and support my audience has shown me for my musical journey. The rapid growth I’ve experienced in such a short time is beyond anything I could have imagined. Inspired by this incredible journey, I felt the urge to break free from my usual style and do something different for all my fans […] My wish is that the listeners truly vibe with the track and derive as much enjoyment from it as we did during its creation.”
The music video for “Wajah” — directed by Sukh Sanghera — sees Harnoor drive up to a ranch and meet his partner, with plenty of choreography to match the energetic, groovy song.
