Hashbass Enlists Blackstratblues on New Enigmatic Song ‘Infinite Worlds’

The pair previously collaborated on ‘For Anita’ in 2020

After his specially curated set called House of Hashbass at Lollapalooza India in Mumbai earlier this year, New Delhi-bred bassist and producer Harshit Misra aka Hashbass has been producing music for various other artists, contributing to Coke Studio Bharat and has even been tweaking old songs and learning new music too. He says, “[I’ve also been] taking care of my mind and body, which has been the biggest task.”

With two EPs out last year (the six-track Fruits and the two-track Arcade), Misra is now out with his latest offering, the dystopian “Infinite Worlds,” which also features Mumbai-bred and Auckland-based guitarist Warren Mendonsa aka Blackstratblues.

“Infinite Worlds” began to take shape during the pandemic when Misra found a patch of one of his favorite VST (Virtual Studio Technology) plugins. In addition, the 1998 film Blade also played its part in the making of the track. Misra says, “Every time I saw Wesley Snipes walk into a club I felt like I needed to make a song that was dark and mysterious yet very loud – just like Blade!”

Misra previously worked with Mendonsa on his debut solo single, “For Anita,” which also featured artists such as seasoned singer Shubha Mudgal and multi-instrumentalist Nikhil Mawkin. On collaborating with the guitarist once more, the bassist says, “Warren is probably one of the most professional musicians and producers. I know working with him is a breeze, he is very clear with his approach to everything that way and he is always spot on with what’s required and what’s not. All in all an amazing experience, as always.” The track includes eerie soundscapes, vocal samples, heavy synths, Hashbass’ nuanced production touch as well as Mendonsa’s slick fretwork that helps lift the song further.

Next, Hashbass is gearing up to release a new EP entitled Solo at Your Party this July. On what folks can expect from the record, he says, “[It] is very close to my heart [and] It pushes boundaries with my music.” In the meantime there’s more production, composing and arranging work in the pipeline for other artists while the musician is also plotting to scale up his live sets at future gigs.
