Hear Beyonce Sing on Soulful, Naughty Boy-Produced ‘Runnin’

Beyoncé has kept quiet on the music front this year, but she’s now teamed up with a new collaborator, producer Naughty Boy, for the romantic, soulful song “Runnin’ (Lose It All).” Arrow Benjamin also appears on the track.

The song begins slowly with Beyoncé singing over a simple piano track. The beat picks up and becomes more urgent by the chorus with Beyoncé emotionally belting “Ain’t running from myself no more.” Benjamin sings the second verse and the pair trade off the bridge and final choruses. The track is accompanied by an aquatic video featuring a man and woman running underwater towards each other.

Naughty Boy, who produced the hit “La La La” featuring Sam Smith, teased the collaboration on Instagram earlier this week. The producer revealed the sullen single art and posted several images of the lyrics from the new track on both the photo-sharing app and his Twitter account.

Earlier this year, Naughty Boy publicly feuded with ex-One Direction member Zayn Malik. After Malik departed the boy band, Naughty Boy indicated in interviews and on Twitter that the pair would be working together on Malik’s first solo release. “Let the music do the talking, guys,” the producer tweeted before sharing a demo of a track called “I Won’t Mind.” Just prior to the leak, One Direction member Louis Tomlinson called Naughty Boy “inconsiderate” for promoting the tentative collaborations.

Malik and the producer’s falling out occurred not long after the release of “I Won’t Mind.” In July, after more demos of Malik singing leaked, the singer lashed out at his former friend. “You fat joke; stop pretending we’re friends,” he tweeted. “No one knows you.” Neither artist has publicly commented on what initiated the feud.

Beyoncé was last heard reuniting with Destiny’s Child’s Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland on the former’s EDM-inspired 2014 track, “Say Yes.”

“They received an advance copy of the album and called, saying, ‘We love “When Jesus Says Yes””¦ there has to be a Destiny’s Child mix of the song,'” Williams said of the song’s origins. “Kelly did it and Beyoncé got right in the studio and did her part. I kept it a secret because I didn’t want anyone to know until it was time.”
