Apart from delivering some of the biggest pop hits in the last five years and performing like a powerhouse on stage, Ellie Goulding also keeps surprising her fans with covers of songs. After covering songs like “Tessellate” by English alt-folk rockers Ajt-j and “Only Girl in the World” by Rihanna, Goulding is back with a refreshing cover of Irish singer-songwriter Hozier’s breakthrough hit “Take Me to Church.”

The internet is already abuzz with his soulful voice and good looks and certainly has high expectations of anyone trying to fill his shoes. But Goulding manages to transform the gospel-rock love ballad into a minimal electro-pop piece. The song is set to digital beats and snaps, some psychedelic strings and simple chords on an electronic piano. Despite the change in arrangement, Goulding has captured the soul and emotion of the song with her vocals.
