Just hours after Gwen Stefani detailed her new LP This Is What the Truth Feels Like , the No Doubt singer unveiled the album’s second single, “Make Me Like You.” Following her bitter breakup anthem and Truth Feels Like first single “Used to Love You,” Stefani’s new pop-oriented track, like her life presently, is all about renewal and finding love again following a fractured relationship.
“I was fine before I met you / I was broken but fine / I was lost and uncertain But my heart was still mine,” Stefani sings in the opening verse. “I was free before I met you / I was broken but free / All alone in the clear view / But now you are all I see.” Later on the chorus, Stefani chastises her new lover, asking, “Why’d you have to go and make me like you? / I’m so mad at you cause now you got me missing you.””Make Me Like You” was produced by Mattman & Robin, the duo behind hits like Selena Gomez’s “Hands to Myself,” Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Run Away With Me” and Taylor Swift’s “All You Had to Do Was Stay.”
Stefani, in partnership with Target ”“ the retail giant that will release the deluxe version of This Is What the Truth Feels Like ”“ will stage the live debut of “Make Me Like You” at the Grammy Awards on February 15th. The performance, which will film during a commercial break, will also double as the single’s official music video.
In other No Doubt news, the band’s other three members ”“ Tom Dumont, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young ”“Â announced plans to release a new LP with AFI singer Davey Havok. The as-yet-unnamed supergroup are currently seeking a record deal for their already-completed album.
