Singer-songwriter Ilina Hats has been singing since she was a toddler, learning Hindustani Classical music under her mother and grandmother for eight years. Growing up in various parts of India such as Vishakhapatnam, Okha and Mumbai, Hats began exploring Western music in 2013. She says, “I shifted to Singapore in 2017 to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) degree in music and have been working here ever since.”

The artist dropped her first single “Scared to Be Honest” last year and put out its follow-up “Anxious” this year. Now, Hats is out with a brand-new electro-pop offering titled “Make It Through.”

After being inspired by the television show Lucifer, the singer-songwriter set out to write “Make It Through” wherein she was keen on incorporating a dark vibe. With its trap beats and Hats’ silky vocals and lyricism, the song is quite the bop. She says, “It talks about going through life with our eyes wide open while facing temptations along the way and fighting the inner and outer demons that try to lure us and to influence us negatively.” Hats adds, “It’s about reassuring ourselves that no matter what we face, we’re going to make it through.”

Produced by Singaporean artist Dan Gryzon, Hats recorded her parts at her home studio. Due to the pandemic, the pair were unable to meet in person while working on the song. However, they managed to finish it in about a month, which according to Hats, is the fastest production process she’s been involved in. Gryzon mixed the song while two-time Latin Grammy award-winning engineer Andres Mayo mastered it. “I am so grateful to have had the best and most efficient team,” says Hats. Next, the musician is gearing up to release a five-track EP. “I’m super excited for how it’s going to turn out,” she says.
