Hear Jameer Kharkongor’s New Country Single ‘This Song’s For You’

Shillong-based singer-songwriter Jameer Kharkongor counts himself as someone who is passionate about music. Growing up in a music-loving city and around musicians, Kharkongor says, “I attended shows and live music concerts very often.” He went on to learn western classical music in rock and pop in Pune and also appeared on singeing reality show The Stage in 2016.

Now a full-time musician, Kharkongor released his debut single “Why Oh Why” in 2019, and has now followed it up with his latest offering, the country-leaning “This Song’s For You.”

The singer-songwriter began working on this new song about three years ago but only completed it with co-writer Mellissa Dessa when the first lockdown came around. He says, “It started with an intention of writing about something that was missing in my life but ended up being manifested instead.” Kharkongor adds, “It’s about celebrating the small quirky things about a relationship. We carved the words in such a manner that people should also be able to relate to them.”

Sonically, the track includes jangly acoustic guitar parts, electric guitar parts that ooze country music, an uplifting groove, Kharkongor’s jolly vocals and more. The singer-songwriter says, “I wasn’t sure about whether or not people would enjoy country music but I decided to stay true to my roots and create music that I grew up listening to.” “This Song’s For You” was recorded at audio engineer Bah Bari Khonglah’s studio in Shillong.

The track already has a music video out which was shot in Goa. In addition to this, Kharkongor has merch that includes T-shirts and hoodies to further promote the track. There’s another single that’s due to be released in a few months and the musician is even putting together his debut EP that he plans on dropping by the end of the year. He says, “My dream is to be able to play my songs at a music festival soon. Hopefully going to manifest that too.”
