"I’m here for every color/ Including Black Lives Matter,” rapper reps on "Poc That Still a Ryda," which teases upcoming album
M.I.A. previewed her upcoming album with “Poc That Still a Ryda,” which she describes as a “mix of all the songs on my upcoming LP.” The track includes references Dora the Explorer, MC Hammer, Michael Jackson’s Thriller, Barack Obama and the #OscarsSoWhite movement. “I set this track on fire,” M.I.A. boasts over frenetic vocal samples: “I’m here for every color/ Including Black Lives Matter.”
“Had to do a remix to let u know , i been poor , i been rich , i been brown , i been black , i seen white and i been around the world a few times ay ay ay ay,” M.I.A. wrote in the YouTube video’s description. “LOVE IS THE ANSWER what the question is i don’t fucking know.”
M.I.A. hasn’t announced the release date of her next LP, her first since 2013’s Matangi. She told fans on Periscope in May that the record, presumably titled Matahdatah, was planned for July, Spin reports.
“I am handing my last LP in to my American label this week,” she tweeted last month, referencing her ongoing issues securing a U.S. visa. “It’ll be up to them if its released.I don’t have visa 4 states to promote or spk!” In March, the rapper posted two tense new tracks, the Lion King-sampling “MIA OLA” and “Foreign Friend,” on Soundcloud.
