Thane-based singer-songwriter Madhura – who goes by her stage name Madhurxo – had her first exploits with music as a toddler. The 19-year-old singer-songwriter credits her parents and teachers for encouraging her as she pursued Hindustani classical vocals as well as picked up the harmonium on the way. “My music taste was different from the other kids in school because of my training and knowledge about music and on many different occasions I used to listen to all their jams,” says Madhurxo. She adds, “That’s how I was so drawn to western music and all the different genres.”

Now, with all this knowledge and exposure to various kinds of music under her belt, the singer-songwriter released her debut ukulele aided single “Pandora” earlier this month. Although the track was completed and ready for some time, Madhurxo was initially nervous about putting it out to the world. She says, “My parents and my friends who had heard it before the official release really encouraged me to go ahead and put it out on platforms.”

The melancholic song features Madhurxo’s delicate vocals and the quaint strums of her ukulele. Lyrically, she sings about a broken relationship that a girl is reminiscing over. The musician says, “She knows nothing is going to be the same anymore; and they have to move on regardless.” The moody track was recorded at Madhurxo’s home studio where she produced, mixed and mastered it herself.

The singer-songwriter has used her time during the lockdown to work on her own music extensively after taking a break from studying architecture. “Pandora” is the first glimpse of her upcoming debut EP which she plans on releasing soon. Madhurxo says, “I’ll be continuing my studies further in music composition, arrangement and production.”
