Hear Mehr’s Poignant New Single ‘I’ll Find You’

The song is the fourth offering from the New Delhi singer-songwriter’s upcoming EP

Although New Delhi singer-songwriter Mehr Khurmi – who goes by her first name – grew up listening to bands such as Guns N’ Roses, Metallica and Bon Jovi, it was the 2006 film High School Musical that drew her towards music. She says, “If I say that out loud, I get embarrassed, but I remember being eight years old, watching the protagonists going through a scene and lacking the words to say [what they wanted] and eventually singing a song about it.” It was around the same time Mehr discovered American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift and soon picked up the guitar and began writing songs of her own. With around 300 songs in her locker, she says, “I feel like I’m the most honest in my songs than anywhere else and it really helps to analytically come to conclusions without rushing into saying things.”

Mehr began putting out her own material last year with the release of two singles; “Waterfall” and “477.” Earlier this year she dropped her third single, “I’ve Danced with the Devil,” and is now out with her latest offering, the emotive “I’ll Find You.” All four songs are set to appear on the singer-songwriter’s forthcoming nine-track EP which will be released later this year. “There’s an entire narrative that strings all these songs together,” she says.

According to the artist, “I’ll Find You” is about turning a new leaf. She says, “For me, this song has an entire universe to itself and I often wonder the number of songs I could pull out of this single narrative.” Mehr adds, “There’s this innocence and pureness in the way it’s written which is beyond love.” The track includes subtle guitar plucking while Mehr’s airy vocals fill the space between the notes and makes for quite a nostalgic listening experience. The musician produced the song herself while Mukund Verma mixed and mastered it. “Mukund did a wonderful. I’ve been through a lot of self-doubts, and I have a tendency to keep sitting with things in order to perfect them, but he really managed to tell me when the song was up. That’s how we knew it was done.”

Mehr tells us that the songs on her forthcoming EP are not bound to any single genre and that each track has its own “particular color, story and its own universe attached to it — linked by a single thread.” The artist says, “If I have to tell people what the songs are about to make them connect to it then I’m doing something awfully wrong. Self-explanatory songs can’t do without honesty and vice versa. So, I try to find a balance between the two.”
