The New Delhi/Shillong duo blend emo post-rock, math-rock and pop-rock to create a vibrant sound across six tracks
What began with guitarist Andrew Kamei posting 15-second riffs on Instagram in 2019, led to jamming out those riffs with bassist Romeo Kom (from Shillong rockers Dossers Urge). The pair decided to form New Delhi/Shillong instrumental rock duo Murder In Space and are now out with their euphoric six-track debut EP Welcome Home, via New DelhiNo Binary.
Work on the EP began before the pandemic and brings together various soundscapes. The musicians mold different genres to form a signature rock sound that includes plenty of guitar-driven sonic elements. There’s riffing, melodic movements, groovy sections as well as catchy and hooky parts that make the EP an exciting listen.
Kamei says, “Welcome Home talks about the journey we took after years of walking on different paths. The emotions, sounds and ideas generate a warm feeling, the feeling one gets after returning home after being away for months or years. As an emo math-rock band, each track is different from the other, keeping versatility.”
Kom and Kamei both worked on the EP remotely during the initial stages of recording. For the final tracking, the pair worked together in Shillong and knocked out the songs in two weeks. The EP was mixed and mastered by Kamei and David Kill Goliath.
Currently, Murder In Space are plotting a tour to support the EP and are in talks with venues and event organizers. Next, the pair are already working on new music in the form of a single. “It is more of a continuation of the EP,” says Kom.
