Hear Naalayak’s First English Song ‘It’s Me’ from New Album ‘Sexy Bhai Ji’ 

Invoking faith and his journey so far, rock band Naalayak‘s vocalist and composer Sahil Samuel has released “It’s Me.” Their first song to feature English and Hindi lyrics is taken from the rock band’s upcoming album Sexy Bhai Ji.

It’s an interesting contrast for Naalayak to release a somber yet breezy kind of song and go on to title their album something that gives off a wholly different energy. Samuel explains that “it’s not the name of the album that defines the songs in it.” He adds, “Rather, to me, it is the songs in it that give identity to the album. It is as simple as that. I was often called sexy bhaiya by college students, in terms of that, I decided to give the name Sexy Bhai Ji to the album in 2018.”

“It’s Me” was also written in 2018 and Samuel felt this was the right time to have the song out. He says in spiritual terms, the song was a promise which saw him through “trying times, people with cruel intentions and mockery.” It brings together rock veterans Parikrama’s Subir Malik on keys, bassist Ashish Dey, guitars by Mingma Lama and Mayank Lawrence and drums by Aditya. Female backing vocals appear in various parts to add an airy element to “It’s Me,” sung by Jasmine Kaur, Aditi Singh and Shreya Baruah.

The song is out via Indiea Records and marks Naalayak’s first release via major label Universal Music India, after years of being an independent band. Samuel recalls it was in August this year after the release of their song “Nusrat” (from the record Round About) that an offer came in from Universal Music. “Working with them will definitely provide Naalayak wider reaches and opportunities,” he adds. 

Naalayak have already given fans a glimpse of the fun side of Sexy Bhai Ji, with the horn section-infused funk-rock single “Charcha Parcha.” It will be followed by another music video, for the album’s third single “Hum Jage” on December 16th.
