Hear New Delhi Musician Addy Singh’s Guitar Licks on New Tune ‘Attitude’

The artist uses a vocal syncopation with his fretplay on the track

The music bug hit New Delhi-based guitarist-producer Addy Singh at quite a young age. After discovering English rockers Dire Straits’ “Money For Nothing” on his dad’s iPod in the fourth grade, Singh went down a guitar rabbit hole and uncovered gems including blues and rock legends B.B. King, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan as well as younger artists such as singer-songwriters John Mayer and Ed Sheeran. “I had this impression that guitar solos and just the instrument, in general, were a thing of the past, in terms of popular music. Safe to say, I was wrong,” says Singh. With a handful of singles already credited to his name, the artist is now out with his latest offering, the slinky guitar-led song “Attitude.”

The new song includes a refreshing guitar and vocal syncopation, groovy patterns as well as a hooky melody. Singh uses the hand slap technique on the guitar to give the song a percussive feel while claps and subtle bass parts add to the sonic experience. The track was born out of a guitar lick Singh posted to his Instagram handle. He says, “Turns out it was stuck in my head.” According to Singh, for the theme of the song he “wanted to get into the sober wantonness of inaction.”

The guitarist recorded the song at his home studio while his co-producer Aditya Shukla from The Box Studio contributed bass and beats to the track. Shukla and Mukund Pandey (also from The Box) mixed and mastered the song.

On the cards for Singh is a collaborative EP as well as an album by the end of the year. With his pop material out of the way, Singh throws in a pun referring to a certain Mayer album and says, “Now I’m on to heavier things.” Also on his agenda is to recruit a drummer from New Delhi to join him. “I’m still on the outside looking in as far as the music scene here goes,” says Singh.
