Within a couple of years of releasing music, Perth-based Pakistani-origin rapper and songwriter Hashky aka Hasham Khan has carved out a resolute style of hip-hop and R&B. On his fourth single released this year – “Duniya” – Hashky sings of togetherness despite geographical boundaries, through the eyes of a charmer who’s professing love.

Over a laidback beat by desi producer Its Simar, the rapper brings in plenty of playfulness in his bars. Hashky starts off with a Hindi verse about missing his beloved, moving into an English verse (which even interpolates Outkast’s hit song “Miss Jackson” and then references Bollywood’s famous on-screen pairings with lines like: “Naach mere saath/ Jaise Rekha Amitabh /Jaise Aishwarya Salman /Jaise Kajol Shah Rukh Khan”

Hashky’s latest song follows self-assuring hip-hop tracks like “Aag,” the more aggro “Bharam” and “Phir Bhi.” The artist says in a statement, “’Duniya’ is a track about overcoming the distance that has been put between the ones we want to be with due to situations out of our control.” With the overall aim to “connect” with fans and “make them feel a certain way,” Hashky goes into a song release cycle without listener expectations. “That feeling can manifest itself into their interpretation of the song based on what’s going on in their lives at that point in time. The overarching idea here is that there is always light at the end of the tunnel,” he adds.
