Hear Mumbai’s Razik Mujawar Croon for Love on Debut EP ‘24’  

The number 24 holds a special, albeit bittersweet significance for Mumbai-based singer and composer Razik Mujawar. Having reached the end of a relationship that was full of love, Mujawar says in a statement, “The person left, but this number and date stayed with me. During this phase I penned down the songs these songs [for debut EP 24].”  

Across six tracks, Mujawar is undoubtedly informed by contemporary Indian pop and Bollywood composers – the rhythms and arrangements on songs like “Chaand Taare” and his vocals on “Zaroori Aajkal” could be set to any filmy sequence on screen – but he also cites British artist Ed Sheeran as an influence. “He plays a vital role in what I am today. It’s not just his music but the way he built himself as a brand and how he started out,” Mujawar says.  

The EP was released with several music videos over time, with the full six-track record arriving on May 30th. It follows several singles like “Dil Matlabi” (2020) and “Shor” (2021), plus Mujawar’s stints as a playback singer, appearing on the title track to 2019 Marathi film Nakhra Tujha as well as a theatrical play Balle Balle, produced by entertainment company Wizcraft in 2017.  

While most of the EP takes a play-it-safe route, there’s a ballad with “Baat Karna” and the title track “24 Ghante” turns to electronic-pop and hip-hop that dials up on stomping beats and a flute riff, all produced by Kaushik Sarma aka Karasama Beats. It allows Mujawar to get much more playful, perhaps looking back at the entire experience of love as one he celebrates and enjoyed. He counts the experience of writing and recording 24 as cathartic, saying, “It’ll remain a beautiful memory to me forever.”   

Up next, there are more songs coming up, with Mujawar feeling motivated by the reception to 24. “There are multiple collaborations as well, plus me and Karasama Beats are onto a lot of new tracks,” he adds.
