Propulsive title-track kicks off band's new LP, out in June

Red Hot Chili Peppers
Red Hot Chili Peppers unleash atmospheric funk on “The Getaway,” the title-track of their 11th studio album, out June 17th. “Take me to the future,” frontman Anthony Kiedis croons over Flea’s minimalist bassline.
“The Getaway,” available now on all major download and streaming services, arrives weeks after the release of dreamy lead single, “Dark Necessities.” Both tracks are available as instant downloads with album pre-orders. The Getaway, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ first LP since 2011’s I’m With You, was produced by Danger Mouse and mixed by longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich.
“We’ve written some songs that I feel are as good as any songs we’ve ever written,” Kiedis told Rolling Stone in October, detailing the band’s creative headspace. “[Danger Mouse] is very good about coming up with super-modern ideas, but he’ll also touch on the acoustic guitar in the control room and strip the song down to its acoustic essentials. Which is a beautiful place to be.”
Flea told Rolling Stone in 2014 that their newest material ran the gamut from “super danceable, funky shit” to “some real introspective, pretty stuff.”
Earlier this month, Red Hot Chili Peppers were forced to cancel a performance at KROQ’s Weenie Roast ”“ and postpone a California gig ”“ as Kiedis was hospitalized with intestinal flu. The singer told ET Canada this week that he’s “on the mend” and “not great, but good.”
“I think I had to get sick to take a look at myself and get to the causes and conditions of my overall health,” he said. “So it turned out to be a good thing, albeit painful.”
