Melding drum and bass with slow burn passages, Piyush Bhatnagar stays true to his party-starter sound
Amongst the most dependable DJ-producers in India for his unrelenting sets that run across drum and bass and dubstep, Mumbai-based Sound Avtar aka Piyush Bhatnagar has released his second song this year, “Your Love.”
Interspersing fast-paced drum and bass portions with atmospheric, moody vocal-led electronic spaces, “Your Love” follows his early March 2020 release “Cybersoul” and the 2019 EP Sling Shot. Sound Avtar has, over the years, got to take his sets to some of the biggest stages in India, sharing the same billing as artists such as Skrillex, Skream & Benga and Major Lazer, amongst others but “Your Love” comes across as a milder, paced out release for those sitting at home rather than the dancefloor.
The artwork for the single gets special mention from the DJ, which is created by Mumbai-based designer and illustrator Errol Crasta. Portraying the DJ at home, Sound Avtar describes the artwork, “[There’s] me lying on my bed procrastinating, with a cup of coffee by my side and two roses that are kept in the middle. The roses imply me, asking for love from the world at large. There is just so much chaos outside right now, so, the least we can do is show some love and be empathetic towards each other.” It’s still going to be a while before there’s a stage and a crowd that Sound Avtar can charm with his seismic bass sound, but clearly the DJ-producer is content living in the moment.
