Hear Stone Sour and Lzzy Hale’s Reverent Rolling Stones Cover

Track will appear on group's upcoming 'Straight Outta Bubank' EP on Record Store Day

Stone Sour will celebrate Record Store Day this year with a new, vinyl-only EP, Straight Outta Burbank. The follow-up to this past April’s Meanwhile in Burbank …, the new record will contain the group’s renditions of songs by the Rolling Stones, Bad Brains, Iron Maiden, Mötley Crüe and Slayer when it hits shelves on November 27th.

The band’s torrid take on the Stones’ “Gimme Shelter” features Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale playing Merry Clayton to Corey Taylor’s Mick Jagger, and it evokes the urgency of the original. The band plays it close to the original, from the woozy opening chords to the bluesy harmonica in the background, and it’s in Taylor’s stentorian bellowing and Hale’s husky, soaring howls where it becomes something more than just another Rolling Stones cover.

“To stay true to the original recordings of these songs, we tried to recreate the sounds and tones that the original artist used,” Stone Sour guitarist Josh Rand said in a statement. “This was both fun and challenging, but the end result was worth all the hard work everyone put into achieving it.”

“I love Straight Outta Burbank, because it’s a little bit further out there than Meanwhile in Burbank … ,'” Taylor said. “This one hits a few different corners: [it’s] got Bad Brains on one end and the Stones on the other … and the crazy thing is it all works. I think that’s a reflection of us as a band. We do what we want, style-wise and it works. I hope people enjoy the spirit, music and fun that went into this.”

Straight Outta Burbank will be available only on colored vinyl at participating Record Store Day stores. The Black Friday consumer event will also feature special releases by Paul McCartney, Eazy E and David Bowie, among others.

Straight Outta Burbank Track List:

1. “Sailin’ On”
2. “Running Free”
3. “Gimme Shelter,” featuring Lzzy Hale
4. “Too Fast for Love”
5. “Season in the Abyss”
