The track follows the New Delhi singer-songwriter’s previous release of the year, ‘Stranger in Our Bed’
After dropping her sultry single “Stranger in Our Bed” earlier this year, New Delhi singer-songwriter Tanya Nambiar has wasted little time in following it up. The musician recently released her latest electro-pop single “Midnight Run.” Nambiar tells us that as artists it’s always about putting out tunes and performing at shows, and due to the pandemic putting a pause on gigs the only other option is to release music. “Hence there is a huge amount of songs being churned out at the moment,” says Nambiar.
“Midnight Run” – produced by Rahul Rathi aka Atmus – incorporates plenty of dancey elements, a chunky bass groove which acts as the hook of the song as well as Nambiar’s clever and dynamic vocal melodies. “I was really nervous about this track because it’s very different from the stuff I released before,” says the singer-songwriter. The musician penned the lyrics to the track by creating a character based on a woman who escapes reality and enters a fantasy world to get away from things. “In her fantasy land, she’s in control of everything and she feels safer and happier,” says Nambiar. She adds, “Sometimes we need fantasy to survive reality.”
Interestingly the artwork for “Stranger in Our Bed” as well as “Midnight Run,” the latter designed by Ujjwala Bassi, features a striking woman character on the cover. Off late Nambiar has been creating characters to help with her songwriting process which she’s found to be quite fun. Ask the musician if the artwork for her two latest singles is connected in any way and she says, “I won’t say they are connected but they are strong women.”
Away from music Nambiar is also a voice-over artist and the co-founder of El Diablo Sauces, with both ventures keeping her quite busy during the lockdown. “Multiple professions keep me super busy, I hate sitting idle,” says the singer. In the pipeline is more music from the artist as she continues to explore the dance, electro and pop space. Nambiar says, “Hopefully I will release something in the coming few months.”
