The Bengaluru-based artist has sung the track in both English and Spanish
Apart from her hometown in Bengaluru, singer-songwriter Tasha Keswani has spent time studying in Scotland, Exeter in England, as well as in Spain. Upon her return to India, Keswani moved into a brand-consulting job, but later decided to drop that and instead pursue music at Mumbai’s True School of Music. Her love for music began at an early age and she says, “What I do understand is that music is something that moves my soul. My profoundest realizations of life, love and myself arrive when I am in front of my piano.”
With a couple of singles released in 2019, Keswani is now out with her third song, the hauntingly beautiful “If Rainbows Do Exist.” The track includes poignant, almost church-like keyboard parts, while a kick drum carries the song further with acoustic guitar strums and chunky basslines, as well as Keswani’s lush vocals. The lyrics include a mix of English and Spanish. She says, “Some days can be tough and overwhelming for everyone, so this song is a form of mental escape to make those days bearable.” She adds, “As the chorus is about sliding away on a rainbow, the use of Spanish aims to aid the mental escape to a different place with a different language. Having lived in Madrid, Spanish is a language that comes easily to me and I felt that writing in this romantic language worked seamlessly when the lyrics were about love.”
Keswani produced the song herself and recorded her vocals at Bengaluru’s Stained Class Productions under the watchful eye of Mrinal and Leslie Charles. “I realized early into the first recording session that we shared the same work ethic, where we weren’t willing to settle for anything less than what we intended to set out for,” she says. The singer-songwriter then tapped mixing and mastering engineer Hersh Desai for the track. “His professionalism, work ethic and speed with which he works surprise me every time. He is also a great listener and was able to get exactly what I wanted to get from the song,” Keswani says.
Next, she is working on putting together an EP that she wants to release next year. Keswani also runs a creative communication company called Memorabilia, for which she produces music for brands. She says, “So my aim is to compose a lot more music for ads and film for different kinds of projects, alongside bringing my EP to life.”
