Hear Vernon Noronha’s Frustration with the Indie Scene On ‘UnderGround’

The track is the Mumbai singer-songwriter’s first release since last year’s ‘Dream Sandwich’

In March last year, Mumbai singer-songwriter Vernon Noronha released his bubbly track “Dream Sandwich” featuring fellow musician Raghav Meattle. Since then, Noronha went on to be part of the Top 24 for talent hunt NEXA Music as well as work on new music. His latest offering is the melancholic and angsty “UnderGround” which he released today.

The new track opens with delicate acoustic guitar plucking and builds with Noronha’s raspy vocals. Although the musician initially started writing “UnderGround” in 2016, he only recently completed the song. In a social media statement, Noronha says, “This song’s about my frustration with the current indie scene and how so many of us remain at the bottom of the barrel.”

Noronha – who has been part of the Indian indie scene for a decade – released his debut EP Closer To Home in 2016 explains that he now realizes that the “joke is on me.” He adds, “I chose to sleep over the time I had to grow as an artist, so I can’t fully blame the scene.” The musician makes it clear that he won’t slack any longer and urges musicians who feel the same way to keep working hard towards their goals. “Expect no one, to come and sail your boat,” says Noronha.
