Ahead of the Tribeca Film Festival, which begins April 19th in New York City, Willie Nelson has shared a new original song, “To Get Here,” that he recorded for the featured film Dog Years. (Listen to the song below.)

The affecting, cinematic ballad begins with simple piano and guitar, before Nelson’s croon kicks in and he begins to take stock of the difficult choices he’s made throughout his life. “All the mistakes I made, I’m glad I made them,” he sings. “All the wrong turns I took, I had to take them.”

The contemplative song was written by Diane Warren, a power ballad powerhouse known for penning hits like Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” and LeAnn Rimes’ “How Do I Live.” The pair decided to collaborate on the track ”“ with Warren writing and Nelson recording ”“ after watching the film.

Dog Years stars Burt Reynolds and Ariel Winter. The Adam Rifkin-directed movie tells the story of an older movie star (Reynolds) embarking upon a soul-searching journey through Tennessee with a young woman (Winter) hired to be his driver.

Dog Years premieres April 22nd. In other Nelson news, the country legend just announced a special tour: the Outlaw Music Festival Tour will kick off July 1st in New Orleans.
