Hear Zohran Miranda’s Synth Driven Debut Single ‘Ready for Love’
The song is the Mumbai musician’s first offering from his four-part release ‘Quadrilogy’
Ever since guitarist Zohran Miranda moved to Mumbai from Muscat, Oman in 2010, he’s played with everyone from singer-songwriter Nikhil D’Souza to jazz outfit Bombay Brass and playback singer Shalmali Kholgade. Miranda has never been one to narrow in on his own sound and always gravitated to all genres of music. He says, “I feel it was best to satisfy this inner craving by performing with several artists to enrich my musicality and keep me constantly searching.”
Although the musician is all for helping other artists achieve their dreams being part of their setup, he’s seemed to have found his groove recently when it comes to his own music. Recently, Miranda dropped his debut pop single titled “Ready for Love.” According to Miranda, he has a “sonic graveyard” of material he’s produced on his computer which dates back to more than a decade ago. He says, “The urge to put out original music has always been there but the time never seemed right, until now.”
“Ready for Love” was born out of an old chord progression and was inspired by retro TV shows. The love sequences, sunsets and nostalgia from the shows is what Miranda wanted to capture on the song. He’s been able to do just that with a vintage drum machine sound, heavy synth layers, plenty of reverb and of course an Eighties driven guitar tone. The musician points out that the track is not a conventional love song. He says, “It is deep and dark and urges you to ponder on the fact that we spend our lives running from this passion by wondering ‘when is the right time.’” He adds, “The song urges you to confront this moment of your life instead of getting lost in the search.”
Miranda produced the song at his home studio and also got onboard sound engineer Kuber Sharma to help with the process and mix the track. The musician roped in keyboardist Rahul Wadhwani to add synths and got the song mastered by Shawn Hatfield at Audible Oddities. “Kuber gave it the stimulus it needed to make it sound more contemporary,” says Miranda.
The lockdown has allowed the vocalist-guitarist to finish up a lot of writing in one go and get his music out. “Ready for Love” is the first of a four-part release titled Quadrilogy which is an amalgamation of Miranda’s nostalgic influences and pays homage, especially to Eighties music. He says, “I was initially drawn to the sounds of the past and how they elicit particular sentiments in the present time, mainly how contemporary pop was created in that particular period.” Miranda adds, “Thematically, the four songs emote a paradox of recurring emotions and feelings I’ve had since childhood.”
