The top five winners will receive VIP access to #HennessyFreestyle Concert in Mumbai this week
Freestyle rap and freeverses have made their way into the Indian hip-hop consciousness in a way that’s a testament to its evolution. The hunger that rappers have to sharpen their all-round abilities on the mic is arguably seen its most raw and earnest form in freestyle clips uploaded from time to time.
Ahead of the #HennessyFreestyle Hip-Hop Concert in Mumbai on October 28th, we invited MCs to bring their A-game with a freestyle contest. The theme #NeverStopNeverSettle is set for poets, performers and rappers alike who have things they want to get off their chest about their journeys and life lessons, among other musings.
The five best entries will get VIP access to the #HennessyFreestyle Concert this week and by the looks of the entries we’ve received so far, the competition is formidable. Send in your entries through Instagram. Meanwhile, here is just a sample of eye-catching original rap Reels we’ve enjoyed so far as part of the #NeverStopNeverSettle theme in our contest:
The Kolkata artist delivers a crisp and shadowy freeverse as he talks about the long game and working on his craft with unwavering resolve.
Producer-rapper and singer-songwriter Hi-Polar is multi-genre in his approach but with his rap, he takes control. The lightning fast delivery makes his point loud and clear that he’s not here to make friends and ready to fight his own battles.
Bengaluru/Siliguri/Kolkata rapper Varun Prasad works with a celebratory horn section in his production and keeps his rap enunciation distinct and confident.
True to the title “Kalashn Flow,” Mumbai-based rapper Macchi takes a rattling, incendiary approach to his freestyle. Plus, he switches things up with his verse in Tamil and an English hook that sums up his identity.
Hyderabad rapper Chemical takes no prisoners with his Telugu freeverse Reel, which he titled “Solar System.” It’s crisp and unhurried, the MC weighing every word but making it flow smooth.
