#Hitsoftomorrow – A Weekly Rundown Of The “Should-Be” Hits

From Snakehips to Noa Kirel to Ella henderson to Bibio and many more

Sep 10, 2022

This week Lewis Capaldi returns just in time to remind us that “Someone You Loved” was no fluke. With his latest single, “Forget Me”, he’s trying to prove to us that he is not even close to being a one-trick pony. The track is giant and Capaldi has likely another massive hit on his hands again. Beyond the star, there are numerous new singles released that deserve our attention so without further ado, here are this week’s Hits Of Tomorrow – the should-be hits of the current week.

WHO’S GONNA LOVE YOU TONIGHT – Snakehips, Tinashe

Snakehips continue to entertain us with fantastic collabs and one of their OG collaboration partners was the still-underrated Tinashe. After hitting gold a few years back with “All My Friends” (also featuring Chance The Rapper), the talents reunite for “Who’s Gonna Love You Tonight”. The single is a solid effort and there is just zero reason for why the track shouldn’t become a blockbuster at Top 40 radio. I just don’t understand why Tinashe never has gotten the mainstream success she deserves while the Snakehips have been busy literally releasing banger after banger. This one is going on repeat now!

LUCKY – Jubël, Noa Kirel

Rising Israeli pop star Noa Kirel joins forces with Swedish electropop duo Jubël for the enchanting single “Lucky”. While the single has that summery feel to it, it will likely keep us staying warm through the fall and winter. “Lucky” is one of those singles that after just one listen you feel like you’ve known the track for years. Of course, that’s what makes Swedish pop so enchanting, timeless and timely at the same time. You won’t stop yourself from grooving along to this oh-so-melodious bop.

HEARTSTRINGS – M-22, Ella Henderson

“It’s been a while…” Ella Henderson sings at the start of this instant smash. It sure has. For their first collaboration together, British-German duo M-22 and Henderson come together for “Heartstrings”, one of the most emotionally-charged dance singles we’ve had in a long time. Henderson’s voice has always been a gift and here under the brilliant guidance of M-22’s Matt James and Frank Sanders, they give her voice the room it requires to create this haunting, anthemic feel that frankly we’ve lost from the genre as of late. A track that really pulls on your heartstrings!

OFF GOES THE LIGHT – Bibio

Stephen Wilkinson aka Bibio has been around for a while and with the announcement of his tenth album, he has perhaps finally given us that hit single that could transcend getting pigeon-holed into some sub-genre and actually became a major mainstream hit. The single has moody bounce that takes us straight to the 1980’s and if Kate Bush could make a resurgence on Top 40 with a nearly 40 year old track, why not an original single that exudes as much joy and groove. “Off Goes The Light” is pure pop fantasy and programmers, please take note!!

NOSTALGIA – Suki Waterhouse

Isn’t it something how a song can instantly connect us to a time and place. “Nostalgia” does just that. There’s a strange irony in that the first listen I had to the song of the British singer-songwriter’s latest single was as the news broke of Queen Elizabeth’s passing. While hearing the track then, I couldn’t help but imagine the royal’s life and legacy flash before my eyes. While Suki Waterhouse had zero intention of this, it does make me reminisce about the time when radio had the power to catapult a song and match it up to a moment in world history – be it Enrique Iglesias’ “Hero” with 9/11 or George Michael’s “Mother’s Pride” with the Gulf War. Honestly, “Nostalgia” is kind of the slow-burn single that deserves to be a hit, a memorable one!
