#HitsOfTomorrow – A Weekly Rundown of the “Should-Be” Hits

This edition features the likes of Jay Sean and Adam Levine, who has new music that might take the focus away from the shenanigans he’s been up to in his personal life

Published by

After a masterful marketing plan, Taylor Swift’s Midnights finally released without any leaks of the actual music until, well, midnight. The album is a return to a more electronic-pop sound after the one-two punch of Folklore and Evermore, but there is a heightened sense of maturity in the lyrics and the presentation that make the songs feel more intimate and less consumed by a specific melodic structure. Standouts on the album include the opening track “Lavender Haze,” “Vigilante Shit” and “Mastermind.” “Anti-Hero” is probably the album’s strongest single, so it’s a fantastic choice.  With that said, there are other releases this week and here is this edition of Hits Of Tomorrow – the should-be hits that deserve our extra little bit of attention.

“Where I Go” – NxWorries, H.E.R.

Anderson .Paak is on a roll! From his Grammy-winning turn as one half of Silk Sonic to clever guest spots on tracks like “Coast” by Hailee Steinfeld, the rapper/singer has definitely had a fantastic 2022 so far. That continues with the latest release by his other duo NxWorries (with producer Knxwledge). Here, the super-duo team up with H.E.R. for what’s likely another instant classic, “Where I Go.” The neo-soul single is the perfect jam for the season and honestly, it seems like no matter what .Paak chooses to be a part of these days, it’s golden!

“Sunset” – Caroline Polachek

Speaking of golden, “Sunset” is the latest single by Caroline Polachek, who has been releasing one alt-pop banger after another in this post “Pang” era. Last year’s “Bunny Is A Rider” was a revelation and “Billions” was equally strong. Here, the flamenco-laced single is all kinds of dreamy but with a rhythm that gets hold of you and doesn’t stop. While radio has yet to embrace the talented artist the way her singles deserve it, the question is – if Shakira can still make it, why not this?

“Ojala” – The Rudeboyz, Maluma, Adam Levine

Another week, and another artist we wouldn’t expect to sing in Spanish does just that. This time it’s Adam Levine, who thankfully has a music release to stop all the other chatter about his personal life. The Rudeboyz and Maluma collaborate with the Maroon 5 singer for this likely transcontinental smash. The song works mainly on Maluma’s charm, but Levine actually doesn’t sound bad and here’s hoping the single helps the singer return to what he’s loved for most – making pop hits that become staples on Top 40 and playlists around the globe.

“Gone (Da Da Da)” – Imanbek, Jay Sean

After a surprise appearance earlier this year at EDC in Las Vegas, DJ and producer Imanbek finally officially collaborated with Jay Sean for the single “Gone (Da Da Da).” The single has a signature Imanbek appeal but with Sean’s vocals, the track reaches new heights. It’s also nice to hear the British-Indian pro have a potential smash again after many years. Nearly two decades plus into the game, Sean’s been enjoying a revival of late and there’s no denying that this single is likely to be a great addition to his discography and dance playlists for months to come. Radio, take note!

“Running” – Ayra Starr, Lojay

Nigerian teen star Ayra Starr already blew us away earlier this year with the release of her album 19 And Dangerous. With the release of the deluxe edition of the album, the single “Running” is also featured and let me say this, it is a banger and deserves to cross over to the mainstream charts spanning the globe. Featuring Lojay, the track is a surefire winner. Programmers, take notice, please.

Even More Hits!
