The list features Mike Posner, Astrid S and others who deserve an extra nudge

There are a couple of big new single releases this week, including Sam Smith and Kim Petras coming together for “Unholy,” likely to be the raunchiest pop hit of the Fall. While the song continues in the tradition of Petras’s “Slut Pop” era, it is a greater departure for Smith. Will the gamble work? Probably. Does it deserve to work? Not really. Meanwhile, the usually more flamboyant Lil Nas X keeps it far more G-rated this time with “Star Walkin’,” the theme song from the upcoming League Of Legends gaming tournament. The track is far from being a throwaway cut and is likely to have the singer-rapper rocketing up the charts. With that said, here is this edition of Hits Of Tomorrow – the should-be hits of the current week.
I sincerely hope SG Lewis doesn’t go the Calvin Harris route and simply rely on known hitmakers for the next era. Of course, when it’s done right, like here, well, no complaints. Lewis pairs up again with Lucky Daye and this time Ty Dolla $ign joins in for the groovy ride on what is definitely one of the best new tracks of the week – “Vibe Like This.” Lewis has been a longtime favorite of mine because the music never plays second fiddle to the recording artists. The track maintains that fine line and thankfully we get a jam that hopefully escalates the track to Top 40 radio and the three artists have a hit collab!
It seems that every few years, Mike Posner releases a song that sort of has no buzz surrounding it in the beginning and then becomes a massive hit. In the self-deprecating manner only Posner knows how to pull off, “I’m Not Dead Yet” is the latest catchy AF iteration of said formula and honestly, if this doesn’t get the singer back in the Top 10, it will just be sad. Lyrically perfect for TikTok and long-term playlists alike, Posner is back and we need to be ready to hear this one for many, many months to come.
I’ve been a fan of Norwegian singer Astrid S for a while now and “Come First” might be the perfect single for the artist to once again become a topic of conversation after many strong singles but not really a “hit.’ The track has everything radio wants and the singer sounds perfect on the record, making it a great Fall single that has the potential to become a sleeper hit on mainstream radio across the globe.
Speaking of sleeper hits, ALMA is most definitely one of my most favorite sleeper artists. I can’t figure out why A&R execs have been unable to make the Finnish singer a household name in the past few years, because the artist just hasn’t had a bad single. “Summer Really Hurt Us” is probably the best single she’s released since “Chit Chat” and Heavy Rules mixtape a few years ago. Programmers would be fools to not realize how massive a single this could be. ALMA really is one of the best pop stars we have right now, and it’s time we dance along!
After “5 Star” was released a few weeks ago, now comes a remix so fast, so fresh, so clean that it had to be featured here. Nigerian star Adekunle Gold gets help from Rick Ross on “5 Star Remix” and Ross adds just the right level of star wattage necessary to move this Afrobeat single to a Top 40 mainstay. It’s a great collab remix and I surely do hope more of the West gets exposed to the star that Gold is.
