#HitsOfTomorrow – A Weekly Rundown of the “Should-Be” Hits

From Beach Weather to Andy Grammer to New Rules and more

Rolling Stone India - Google News

Another week, another batch of new releases. While there are no big releases from the likes of Taylor Swift or Drake in the mix, that bodes well for the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack as the movie releases to rave reviews. Rihanna already scored a huge hit with the first single from the soundtrack, “Lift Me Up,” and now we get to hear the other single she recorded for the album, “Born Again”. Equally emotionally packed, it is likely to resonate with filmgoers and we may be seeing a battle waging at the Oscars this year with the two tracks from the film vying against each other if they choose to push both! The year 2023 is looking bright for RiRi – she may have disappointed fans after announcing that there was no secret album ready to drop, but between the Super Bowl halftime show and likely the Oscars, we will definitely be seeing the superstar everywhere! Beyond Rihanna, there are a number of singles that deserve our attention this week and so without further ado, here is this edition of #HitsOfTomorrow – the should-be hits that deserve that extra little bit of attention.

“Trouble With This Bed” – Beach Weather

Alternative pop-rock band Beach Weather are having quite the year and it keeps getting better. “Trouble With This Bed” is arguably their best song to date and it needs to become a colossal breakthrough global hit for the trio. The reflective love song that celebrates loneliness by way of retro synths makes for a homerun sonically. This should easily cross over to Top 40 radio and become a staple of many multi-genre format playlists. I can see it also being one of the last few tracks to possibly even make my year-end listing. Next year is looking mighty bright for Beach Weather.

“Good In Me” – Andy Grammer

Andy Grammer has never really switched up his musical style and that’s okay. The singer has managed to put together quite a successful singles discography over the past decade and “Good In Me” belongs right up there with his other hits like “Honey, I’m Good” and “Don’t Give Up On Me.” It’s sentimental of course, but Grammer’s earnestness has always kept him one step cooler and more sincere than, say, Jason Mraz, and this single has the potential to not only trend on social media but also become yet another breakthrough single for the artist, putting him back onto Top 40.

“Late In The Evening” – New Rules

Another trio making waves is the UK/Irish band New Rules. Their latest single “Late In The Evening” is written by hitmaker Jamie Scott, who has worked with everyone from Ed Sheeran to Justin Bieber. The heartfelt single works big time, in no small part due to the timelessness of the lyrics and the production. The trio are likely to score to a big breakthrough with this track and Top 40 should really take note. We are missing tracks like this on radio at the moment, and the single would be a great addition for the chilly months ahead!

“Lose You” – Afrojack, James Arthur

Afrojack comes together with the always-soulful James Arthur on “Lose You.” It seems that of late, there have been an inordinate amount of dance producers with singer-songwriter collabs happening and the bulk of them have honestly been quite ordinary. But this single actually bucks the current meh trend as Arthur’s delivery and Afrojack’s production work really well to create an emotional track that feels current and not just another throwaway single. Will it have legs? It should – here’s hoping Top 40 opts for this gem.

“Until My Heart Stops Beating” – modernlove.

After Oh My Mind, their fantastic EP release over the summer, modernlove. are back with yet another new fantastic single with “Until My Heart Stops Beating.” While I wasn’t sure they’d top their single “Don’t Wanna” from the EP (and previously championed here on Hits Of Tomorrow), this new single gives that track a run for its money. I hope the band continue to build on the momentum they’ve created this year, with this single being the perfect opportunity for the band to score a major hit across multiple formats and at Top 40. Programmers, don’t ignore this song and this band!
