#HitsOfTomorrow – A Weekly Rundown Of The ‘Should-Be’ Hits

Outside of big releases from the likes of Miley Cyrus and Sam Smith, there are other artists with new tracks that should propel them to the limelight. Check them out

It’s just the second week of the new year and we’ve already got big, fresh releases with the likes of Miley Cyrus debuting her latest single, “Flowers.” The artist had been teasing new music since her New Year’s Eve special and it was surely worth the wait (and the hype). Meanwhile Monsta X continue to give us reason to rejoice. With their Reason EP, they’ve given us another batch of hit-worthy singles with “Beautiful Liar,” the best of the lot (and yes, thankfully, it’s not a cover of the Beyonce/Shakira single!).

Sam Smith continues to tease us with singles from his upcoming Gloria LP, this time with “Gimme” featuring Koffee and Jessie Reyez. The single is likely to also garner its fair share of TikTok appreciation. Looks like this era may prove his most commercially successful yet!

Grammy Best New Artist nominee Maneskin return with Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave’s Tom Morello for “Gossip,” likely to be a huge hit for the band that hasn’t given that big second hit after their breakthrough cover of “Beggin’”.

While these singles are likely to get the attention they deserve on radio and in streaming, here are this week’s #HitsOfTomorrow – the should-be hits that deserve a little more attention and that extra nudge!

“Weekends” – Freya Ridings

The winter blues might have found its anthem as British-pop powerhouse Freya Ridings goes brutally honest with us on “Weekends,” her comeback single, if you will, from her upcoming sophomore album Blood Orange. The single takes a look at the after-effects of a break-up when all of a sudden, the loneliness can creep in and all the plans that were become non-existent. Between riding vocals and haunting lyrics, the single hopefully will catapult the singer again to soaring international acclaim and to the top of the charts, too!

“Home Movies” – Lukas Graham, Mickey Guyton

Two storytellers in their own right but from two different worlds come together on “Home Movies.” Lukas Graham and Mickey Guyton come together in a touching ballad that reflects on a life passed by living in the moment. The track should connect with the nostalgic bone in all of us, and it is aided by a warm and memorable chorus that should hopefully turn the single into a staple on radio and endless montages for years to come.

“Puzzle” – SF9

The new year gets off to an awesome start for the underrated K-pop boy band SF9, who have released their EP titled The Piece Of9. The first single, “Puzzle,” is the real winner here. The electro-pop track has all the necessary ingredients for the band to break out from the pack and truly make a global dent with a hit that moves them up the ranks. While Monsta X might have the bigger release this week, this is the track to beat.

“Over Tonight” – Stacey Ryan

Stacey Ryan isn’t a name you might be familiar with yet but “Over Tonight” should hopefully do the trick. The soulful single is a breath of fresh air in the current pop landscape, since far too many artists continue to try and mimic each other and ride off that success. Ryan had already achieved great viral success with “Don’t Text Me When You’re Drunk” with Zai1k last year (and featured here on #HitsOfTomorrow) but this single really showcases the songwriting prowess of the young star and with any luck the single will make a dent on the charts.

“REACT” – Switch Disco, Robert Miles

Mashup DJ Duo Switch Disco have struck gold teaming up with a vocally uncredited Ella Henderson for the single “REACT.” The track, which prominently samples Robert Miles’ classic 90s instrumental “Children,” works because the melody layered atop the sample flows naturally and doesn’t come across as gimmicky. Angel City managed to do the same nearly two decades ago with “Do You Know (I Go Crazy)” but here, with far more emotive vocals, the single strikes an emotional chord that Miles’ piano managed to conjure up in the original. Hopefully, with the right push, the track won’t just become a club favorite but also burst onto the Top 40 charts across the globe!
