#HitsOfTomorrow: A Weekly Rundown Of The ‘Should-Be’ Hits

Blxst, Purple Disco Machine and Bob Moses, plus Robyn and Mapei cover Neneh Cherry’s “Buffalo Stance”

Mar 05, 2022

March is here and we are treated with the latest from Camila Cabello featuring Ed Sheeran with “Bam Bam” while DaBaby makes another attempt at redemption this time with “Turbo” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again. The collabs further continue with Machine Gun Kelly and Lil Wayne join forces for “ay!” and Justin Bieber jumps on Omah Lay’s latest “Attention.” While all four tracks are likely to move up the charts, here’s this week’s Hits Of Tomorrow – the songs that need a little more praise to perhaps get that chance!

“The Days” – Sandro Cavazza

“The Days” marks Sandro Cavazza’s final song to be released as a solo artist. The Swedish singer recently stated that “some things like social media, competition and being at the center of attention do not make me happy.” It’s unfortunate that we are losing yet another talent thanks to what some would argue is an epidemic of social media fatigue (check out my recent #TrendsIMO piece about this). “The Days” is a solid turn for the artist and here’s hoping while we may not continue to hear him, we’ll at least enjoy his songwriting contributions in the coming times.

“Twisted Mind” – Purple Disco Machine, Agnes

If “Magic Still Exists” didn’t fully convince you that Agnes had embraced the Disco Diva hat, well, perhaps this single with Purple Disco Machine will seal the deal. “Twisted Mind” is the perfect track to take us back to the Seventies and Studio 54 in a way that feels fun but with production that feels futuristic enough to know it is 2022 and we are going to have a good time, no matter what!

“Sometimes” – Blxst, Zacari

In a week with so many collabs, this one between California native Blxst and Zacari should not be ignored. “Sometimes” continues a hot streak for the young artist who this time ponders about a relationship that’s not going the way he thought. The single feels current and with just the right kind of sonic bounce that it screams Top 40. Ideally, there will be much love for the track cause this production is solid!

“At The End Of The Day” – Wallows

While anticipation for their sophomore album continues to build, Wallows release their latest track “At The End Of The Day” and we also get to enjoy a complementary music video for the single shot in Las Vegas. The song is lyrically in the same wheelhouse as “Sometimes.” Production-wise, this is pure Eighties gold meets today’s indie-pop, which should mean a hit! Here’s hoping that’s the case – there is nothing stopping this track from becoming a radio regular – let’s just give it that push it needs!

“Hanging On” – Bob Moses

One of my favorite bands Bob Moses released their album The Silence in Between this week and while the album is near perfect, the standout track is “Hanging On” – it has just the right sensibility to perhaps help the band really crossover in the purest sense. The single would be a perfect addition to Top 40 radio given its retro feel, emotional lyrics and an instantly memorable chorus – don’t get me wrong, this needs to be hit!

BONUS: Cover Of The Week!

“Buffalo Stance” – Robyn, Mapei

Quite possibly one of the most underrated artists of the Eighties and Nineties gets covered by one of the most underrated artists of the last two-plus decades – it just so happens both women are Swedish and both have made only a small dent on the charts despite having a huge impact to the music scene. “Buffalo Stance” made Neneh Cherry an overnight star in 1989 – here, Robyn pays tribute to one of her heroes along with some help from Mapei. The track keeps its original vibe but replaces the funky fresh vibe with a more soulful push, making us want Robyn to do an entire covers album and yes, wanting to hear more from Neneh Cherry again! LOVE!

On a roll! Both ROZES and Cannons continue on a roll with solid new additions after already recently featured singles!

“Homebody” – ROZES

“Hurricane” – Cannons

On the cusp!

“Payback” – Cheat Codes, Icona Pop

“More” – Between Friends

“Do It Again” – Cochise

“Forgive Me” – Sofi Tukker, Mahmut Orhan
