#HitsOfTomorrow: A Weekly Rundown Of The ‘Should-Be’ Hits ft Crush, Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris, Kanii and More

This week turns up must-hear music from Myles Smith, Jaz Karis, yaeow, Thelma Plum, SLUMBERJACK and Little Green and Murphy’s Law (UK)

As Christmas and the New Year are closely approaching, veteran acts and younger talents are pushing forward with Holiday releases. Of course, bucking every trend is Drake, who like Taylor Swift, regardless of what the market is doing, he chooses to do whatever the f**k he wants. And rightly so.

Drake released the third installment in the Scary Hours EP series: For All The Dogs: Scary Hours Edition. The six tracks include only one feature (of course with J. Cole) and a very high-profile shoutout to his sister in chartbusting, Swift. “Red Button” is the track in question where he croons “Taylor Swift the only n**** that I ever rated / Only one could make me drop the album just a little later.”

Truly in the span of superstars, these two are unparalleled. The world still waits for an official collab between the two artists, I can’t even tell you how massive that would be!

Well, beyond Drake, there’s still a lot of fresh (non-holiday) music releasing and so without further ado, let’s get things started with the SHOULD-BE hits. Here are this week’s #HitsOfTomorrow

“Body Moving” – Eliza Rose, Calvin Harris

The power of DMs continues to amaze. Eliza Rose and Calvin Harris agreed to a collab over DMs last year and the result is here – “Body Moving,” a syngeristically perfect coming together of both artists for a summer jam to keep you warm through the winter months. Rose and Harris work well together here and it’s been a welcome return this year for Harris to a less big name-reliant feature to actually giving listeners what they want! We’ll be moving our bodies to this for quite some time!

“pretty photos” – Kanii

Kanii has been one to watch this year. The young artist exudes maturity beyond his years but offers true soul with a level of innocence we often don’t hear (or see) anymore on the charts. “pretty photos” is a perfect example of an understated Top 40 hit that perfectly fits in between the uber productions of The Weeknd and natural charm of early Michael Jackson. He’s right where he should be and here’s hoping programmers take note of this talent – he’s definitely a big rising star.

“Solo” – Myles Smith

British singer-songwriter Myles Smith gives us what could arguably be the best new single of the week in my opinion. “Solo” is a smash from every side – from the production to the lyrics to the melody to Smith’s delivery – this is what a Top 40 hit requires. Smith exudes emotion and joy while we all sing along. If this track doesn’t get the love it instantly deserves, I can’t see streamers and filmmakers not jumping on the track to make it part of their films/T.V. shows/previews. This is a track with legs, so mark my words – even if it doesn’t “hit” now, it will get its flowers.

“Hmm-cheat” – Crush

R&B in the K-pop world has evolved to many different shades and Crush has been crushing it for more than a decade now. After his mini-resurgence last year collabing with BTS’s J-Hope on “Rush Hour,” it seems the artist has got the dancefloor bug again and the upbeat turn he takes on “Hmm-Cheat” works because of his effervescence. All too often, most tracks follow a very specific American R&B soul pattern but this is more retro-graded, more 1970s funk and soul, something that not only will give Crush another hit in his native but hopefully help to crossover and become a global commercial success!

“Little Blue Moon” – Jaz Karis

Speaking of American R&B, there is a reason why the formula has been so successful over the years. But as of late, thanks to the re-energization brought to the genre by the likes of Grammy heavyweights this year SZA and Victoria Monet – artists like Jaz Karis now aren’t just going to be relegated to Adult Top 40 radio stations. “Little Blue Moon” is a classy, vocally supreme and beautiful track that lyrically and sonically should resonate with Top 40 audiences who are now getting into a groove that we’ve seldom heard on mainstream radio over the past couple of decades. Here’s hoping Karis can ride the wave and breakthrough rightfully with this gem of a track!

Even More Hits!

“be gentle with me” – yaeow

“We Don’t Talk About It” – Thelma Plum

“Nostalgia” – SLUMBERJACK, Little Green

“Need To Know” – Murphy’s Law (UK)
