#HitsOfTomorrow: A Weekly Rundown Of The ‘Should-Be’ Hits

New music from Buppy., Kawala and a solid comeback from the inimitable Regina Spektor

Published by

In these challenging times, music continues to bring solace around the world. This week sees a likely smash with “Freaky Deaky” by Tyga and Doja Cat. We also have Rosalia spicing things up with “Chicken Teriyaki” while Kodak Black also raps about chickens on his latest “Usain Boo.” Meanwhile, DNCE return with Kygo on “Dancing Feet,” a disco bop sure to become another radio staple. Of course, here we want to pay attention to the tracks that need a little nudge to become the breakthrough hits they deserve to be!

“Fortune Favors The Bold” – Joy Oladokun, Tim Gent

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Joy Oladokun delivers a stunner here with this Latin-proverb titled “Fortune Favors The Bold.” Featuring hip-hop artist Tim Gent, the track feels like the absolute right song at the right time as it celebrates kindness and care – something the world is in desperate need of at the moment. Music has the ability to heal if it is shared and while Top 40 radio is apolitical as it gets, perhaps the inclusion of this positive jam could at least inspire us to just feel better when listening.

“Cold Nights In Hollywood” – Buppy.

One of the most interesting young artists out there at the moment is Tiggi Hawke aka Buppy. He continues his melancholic vibes with perhaps his best release yet “Cold Nights In Hollywood.” Already all over TikTok, the song feels like the breakthrough single the singer-songwriter needs to crack the Top 40…in a big way! He better!

“The Way I Do” – July 7

Afrobeats is continuing to grow as a global genre and singer-songwriter July 7 is making the most of this newfound exposure with the hypnotic “The Way I Do.” The groove of the track is its USP as it slithers and slides alongside his voice, making for one of the catchiest songs and screaming to crossover at mainstream radio. If it does not on its own (which would be a shame), I hope some rapper jumps on this track and helps this get heard everywhere!

“Fake It” – Tauren Wells, Aaron Cole

Christian pop has often given us big crossover hits and there is literally no justifiable reason for Tauren Wells’ latest single “Fake It” not to legitimately make it onto Top 40 radio. With a Bruno Mars-like vibe, the single is an instant bop that is downright irresistible. And why not have some positive lyrics to go alongside it right? Featuring Aaron Cole, this song is a pure hit!

“Hypnotized” – Kawala

Indie rockers Kawala might possibly have the sleeper single of 2022 with “Hypnotized.” The song starts with a pretty acoustic riff before turning into a great slice of rock aided by one of the catchiest pop hooks so far this year. If Glass Animals and “Heat Waves” could become a staple on Top 40 radio, so can this and radio needs to give Kawala the attention they deserve. I’m hypnotized!

BONUS: Comeback Of The Week!

“Becoming All Alone” – Regina Spektor

Russian-American singer-songwriter Regina Spektor returns at what seemingly could feel like the absolute worst timing, but the outspoken artist has made her stance clear. The truth of the matter is, music can often be the best remedy. Here, Spektor returns to form on this absolutely gorgeous track reminding us how amazing a musician and storyteller she is. “Becoming All Alone” is Spektor’s strongest outing in years and it would be amazing if radio was reminded of that and followed suit!

On the cusp!

“No Woman Is An Island” – Rae Morris

“Scuba Diving” – Mooski

“Wanna Love You” – Otis Kane

“Figure Skating” – Porij
