This week’s rundown of ‘should-be’ hits includes Flora Cash, Shaznay Lewis and Pet Shop Boys, among others
It’s Grammy weekend and while artists are getting ready for the gold, we are witnessing some battles brew between Nicki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion and (no this isn’t 20 years ago) Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.
After Megan Thee Stallion released “Hiss” last week, Minaj clapped back and by midweek we had her response in the form of “Big Foot.” The diss track was attempted to derail Stallion’s single but it actually has helped fuel the track to greater success. Minaj’s track has meanwhile faltered on the streaming charts.
Buoyed by the immediate success of his single “Selfish,” Justin Timberlake seemed unapologetic for anything, discounting the Britney Spears army for their attempt to chart her own “Selfish” single atop the charts. But perhaps even more childish was not accepting Britney’s support of the single with grace and her sincere apology. We will see if there will be a chart backlash. For the moment, Timberlake seems unscathed yet again as radio has already made his single a Top 20 hit.
Thankfully none of this week’s #HITSOFTOMORROW features have long-gestating beef (that we know of). Having said that, here are this week’s SHOULD-BE hits of the week.
“No doubt about it, the band is driving this Eighties-synth smash till it crashes right onto the charts.”
“Even 20 years later, Shaznay Lewis knows how to craft an exceptional pop song that sounds both current but also hits that sweet retro spot.”
“Remnants of the classic ‘World Hold On’ help to shape the honest personal message of Bru-C’s should-be unity anthem.”
“Producer James Ford adds an orchestra adding further dimensions to the Pet Shop Boys sound and we love it.”
“We haven’t had a legit girl-group ballad in a long time to impact the charts. This could be the one.”
“If the ‘Shut Up And Eat The Pasta!’ rally-cry doesn’t go viral, I will mind. Catered and ready to serve.”
“Now this is what a stirring indie pop crossover hit sounds like!”
“THE Kate Hudson may be 20+ years late to Top 40 superstardom but maybe radio embraces her singer-songwriter meets Bonnie Tyler vibe.”
“A smooth pop/soul bop that perfectly introduces the world to Lewis”
