#HitsOfTomorrow: Martin Garrix, Alyssa Reid, Kyle and More
Plus, Brit-Aussie pop artist Ruel’s dream pop delight
Even with the year of the year close approaching, it hasn’t stopped the new releases from pouring. While Juice WRLD is likely to dominate the charts with many tracks from his posthumous album (including BTS and Justin Bieber), here are some of that we don’t want falling under the radar this week.
“Growing Up Is ___” – Ruel
British-Australian pop sensation Ruel’s new single “Growing Up Is ___” is just the right song to get him even more attention across the globe. In a clever bid to engage his fans, the title features a blank at the end where the artist believes only each person’s individual experience can finish the phrase the way it’s intended. The moody slice of dream pop is a perfect vehicle for the singer-songwriter to cruise his way onto many 2022 playlists!
“Mean” – Alyssa Reid
Canadian singer-songwriter Alyssa Reid is back. Well, at least under that name again. From 2018 to 2020 she released four singles and two EPs under the name ASHS which finally now becomes a full circle moment as her album ASHS now releases, including those tracks plus some new jams including “Mean.” It’s as catchy as you’d expect any of Reid (or ASHS) material to be. Here’s hoping the return to her real name results in a return to the higher ranks of the charts where this single could be a perfect fit.
“Love Someone Like Me” – Victor Crone
Swedish singer-songwriter Victor Crone has been waiting for his next big moment. After his single “Storm” was submitted as the Estonian entry at Eurovision in 2019, things have been on the up and up. “Love Someone Like Me” has universal appeal for the romantics at heart and the single deserves to become a big crossover hit for the talented musician.
“Perfect” – Kyle
California-native Kyle is about to bring NFTs to the masses, or at least his followers. Last weekend, while announcing his upcoming album It’s Not So Bad, the singer/rapper disclosed that “instead of splitting the royalties with the label, he’ll be selling this project as an NFT to give an opportunity for fans to “own this project with me.” While it shall be seen how that goes over, hype for the album will likely increase with “Perfect,” a light and airy track that finds the songwriter joyous over a new squeeze.
“Won’t Let You Go” – Martin Garrix, Matisse & Sadko, John Martin
Cinematic euphoria. Martin Garrix and Matisse & Sadko have collaborated before but here with the reliable-as-ever John Martin on vocals, the song becomes larger and feels destined for the festivals (which the live version already has!) Thankfully, the studio version is crisp and it would be a shame if this didn’t cross over to Top 40, as the song has a charm that many progressive tracks fail to have. Can’t wait to hear the remixes on this one!
On the cusp…here are three more new releases we hope to see go far!
