So much to say about the Grammy nominations but let’s focus on the potential nominees for next year dropping new singles this week!
It was just last year that six-time nominee Jack Harlow released the song “Dua Lipa.” Now both the rapper and the “Dance The Night” release their latest singles respectively.
Lipa releases “Houdini,” an instant smash that’s likely catapulting the superstar to even greater heights. The singer’s confidence and ability to give us hit after hit has truly solidified her status at the top of Top 40. Being co-written and co-produced by Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker adds to the cool vibe – very much looking forward to her next era!
Speaking of cool, not since Jack Harlow’s Number One smash “First Class” has the rapper had a song so instantly likeable (and radio friendly) as “Lovin On Me.” The track is likely to give the Kentucky native another Top 10 hit (he just recently scored one with Jung Kook on their collab “3D”). We are missing pop-rap on the radio these days so it’s nice to see Harlow not take himself so seriously and give us a track that’s likely going to be on repeat through the winter on many playlists.
Beyond these two stars, there’s a lot of new music to sieve through this week. Without further ado, let’s get things started with the SHOULD-BE hits. Here are this week’s #HitsOfTomorrow.
After the unexpected global smash that was “(It Goes Like) Nanana” earlier this year, South Korean DJ Peggy Gou is back with yet another unexpected single and this time it’s a collaboration with rock veteran Lenny Kravitz, who’s been experiencing a bit of a career resurgence of late thanks to his own single release “TK421” (and its viral Kravitz in the buff video). The track is likely to help Kravitz score a major Top 40 hit while for Gou, anticipation grows even stronger her full-length LP out next year. “I Believe In Love Again” is a winner we can all believe in!
While the number of internet personalities becoming bonafide Top 40 hitmakers is still small, the number of artists vying for those most coveted slots keeps expanding. Alex Warren has the story that makes him such a catching influencer but it’s his voice and this song “Yard Sale” that hopefully helps the artist not just satiate his own massive fanbase but also a larger audience. The single is perfect for this upcoming winter and if programmers actually take note of Warren’s artistry here, the track would become a big hit at Top 40.
Alan Walker has been cranking out endless noteworthy singles since his massive smash of a lifetime “Faded.” Of course, no track seems to stand tall in comparison, but that might change with “Heart Over Mind” featuring Daya. The single is Top 40 ready and Daya sounds confident and oh so convincing here, making for a powerfully emotive single that hopefully gets it due on radio and not just in the clubs.
Another TikTok star who has the vocal and songwriting chops to back it up is Benson Boone. Boone has slowly but surely climbed his way to international success and “To Love Someone” further cements his status as likely Top 40 mainstay. The single is a mature take for the young talent and is likely to help Boone play the Ed Sheeran card of getting mothers and daughters together in their swooning. Emotional ballad that hits the right chords.
A longtime fave and her shout-out in the “Queens Remix” of Beyonce’s “Break My Soul” last year permanently embedded her talent for us. “Chanel Pit” is classic Whack and the artist does not disappoint. The bop is a welcome return to a voice we just haven’t heard from regularly enough since her 2018 debut album Whack World. Many have tried to replicate Whack’s badassery (is that word?) but no one does it better. Here’s hoping her comeback pushes her further into the spotlight and on to the Top 40 where this bop deserves to be!
