And just like that October ends with a “Slut!” and a collab so 2000 and late!

Taylor Swift continues to give us new versions of her “Eras” and this time she’s back with 1989 – Taylor’s Version, one of her most successful albums now gets a 2023 Swift update that’s likely to satisfy the Swifties and offer the rest of us more vault treasures that continue to be the gift that keeps giving. “Slut” is definitely the highlight vault track from the set and is likely to be her next Number One single after the recent Lover track “Cruel Summer” did just that on the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyond this guaranteed smash, let’s talk about “Hass Hass,” Okay, first of all, how awesome is it that Diljit Dosanjh is collaborating with some international giants? Second, it’s amazing how he is staying true to himself while his collaborators are joining him in his wheelhouse. Now, let’s get to the issue. “Hass Hass” feels very 2000 and late. “Cheap Thrills” was one of Sia’s biggest global hits and the song went viral before songs went viral. So it feels incredibly lazy for Dosanjh to work with the Australian singer-songwriter on a track that has such a dated production feel to it. Yes, it’s nice to hear Sia nail her brief Punjabi singing portion but the track is lazy and frankly does nothing for Dosanjh’s popularity outside his already established fanbase. “Hass Hass” feels like such a wasted opportunity. Of course, it’s going to be a big hit, but this is not taking the artist “international.”

Having said that, there are some great tracks that are far more deserving our attention this week – the SHOULD-BE hits if you will. Here are this week’s #HitsOfTomorrow

“Different Kind Of Beautiful” – Alec Benjamin

A welcome return from multi-social media platform star Alec Benjamin. The talented singer-songwriter scores a winner with “Different Kind Of Beautiful.” The track is produced by hitmakers Stargate who match Benjamin’s voice with a production that begs us to listen to his emotions and yes, press repeat. Top 40 smash potential.

“A Love Song” – Lady A

Lady A has always had the ability to give us a sentimental jam. “A Love Song” is no different other than the fact that it is their best single in years. Poignancy at its best, the song is yet another country song that easily could fit on multiple radio platforms and here’s hoping the “Need You Now” hitmakers get a much deserving Top 40 welcome back with this stunner.

“Feeling Alright” – Kaiser Chiefs

Speaking of welcome back, Kaiser Chiefs haven’t really ever gone away per se but “Feeling Alright” is anything but just alright, it’s amazing! Their strongest pop-leaning single in what might be decades, the single has just the right amount of Top 40 touch to become a crossover hit not just a fan favorite. Programmers take note!

“Redline” – Charlotte Plank

“Dancing Is Healing” gave her a smash earlier this year (and a mention in this column for it!). Charlotte Prank is moving from high to high with “Redline,” her best single since that collab with Rudimental. Plank’s voice has a unique texture that makes you want to listen to anything she performs and it just happens not to be what you’d expect which then makes it all the more special. The track needs to be released as a single!

“Heart Still Beating” – Nathan Dawe, Bebe Rexha

I’m really convinced now that Bebe Rexha does not leave her best material for herself. “Heart Still Beating” with Nathan Dawe is an understated Rexha but It’s hypnotic. Honestly, far far better than her David Guetta collabs, this is the kind of EDM music the talented artist should focus on. Of course Dawe’s magic helps here – this is one dance track you can hear the influences (there are many) but it also feels current (sans maybe the meh song title). Rexha’s collab “Stars” with OZUNA and PNAU earlier this year did not blow up the way it deserved, I certainly hope that’s not the case with this one. Hit!

Even More Hits!

“Lollipop” – Baby Tate

“Time Will Tell” – Sekou

“Making It Through” – Angie McMahon

“Pray For Me” – Lekan
