#HitsOfTomorrow – A Weekly Rundown Of The ‘Should-Be’ Hits

March means Miley madness! The former Disney star lets us in on her Endless Summer Vacation – arguably Cyrus’ strongest and most enjoyable album to date. The album exudes a confidence that many of her previous efforts showcased but this album truly embraces the evolution of a pop star who has traveled on many lanes but finally just seems to have her very own. Future singles like “River” and “Jaded” are bound to make this year the singer’s best one yet!

Besides the “Flowers” hitmaker, the week includes many a potential hit. Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding return with “Miracle” which gives us serious Robert Miles nostalgia. TWICE return with their EP Ready To Be featuring their English version of likely-hit “Set Me Free.” Meghan Trainor embraces her reclaimed fame with “Mother,” another retro-tinged smash in the making while PNAU teams up with Khalid for “The Hard Way,” the strongest single in quite some time from the usually reliable singer.

While none of these tracks likely need any more attention, here at HITS OF TOMORROW we’re giving you our picks for the best of the other releases that might sneak under your radar but are all potential should-be hits! So without further ado, here goes!

“Subramine” – Seeb, BANNERS, SUPER-Hi

Sometimes when you see too many names together, you wonder if the collaboration will work. Thankfully, in the case of “Submarine” by Seeb with BANNERS and SUPER-Hi, it works perfectly. 

The dreamy tropical single is likely to keep us by the water through the spring and summer this year. This is a collab of underrated underdogs and I’m so ecstatic that all three artists have found a way to come together and create something that’s brighter than what any of them would individually do, yet all stay true to their own artistry. Hit!

“You Just Walked In My Life” – CHANMINA

A little J-pop, a little K-pop but genuinely a 100 percent pure global pop artist, CHANMINA brings life to us this week with “You Just Walked in My Life.” The Eighties vibe of the single works well as the singer/rapper gives us a slice of melodic pop that isn’t rooted in anything other than today’s Top 40 and we’re loving it. In a fair world, the track will climb up the charts quickly across the globe as the artist truly embodies what it means to be a star crossing borders and boundaries.

“I Wrote A Song” – Mae Muller

First things first, revenge songs are in! 2023 has already given us Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” SZA’s “Kill Bill” and PinkPantheress’s “Boy’s A Liar.” Will we soon see “I Wrote A Song” added to these chart smashes? Well, while on its own it may not stand as good a chance as the above-mentioned singles, it also happens to be the official entry from England for this year’s Eurovision competition. The extremely catchy bop is likely to resonate and anytime there is a non-lyrical melody in a chorus, it all but guarantees an international hit. Mae Muller scored a decent hit last year with NEIKED on “Better Days.” This is likely to do even better and I have a feeling we’re likely to hear this well beyond the singing competition this year.

“COOCOOL” – Roisin Murphy, DJ Koze

There’s probably no one cooler than Roisin Murphy. I mean, she was cooler before we even heard of Lady Gaga and she’s still cooler than the Oscar winner (potentially two-time Oscar winner this weekend if she wins Best Original Song for “Hold My Hand” from Top Gun: Maverick. Let’s hope that’s not the case and “Naatu Naatu” from RRR wins!). So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the latest effort from Murphy, produced by DJ Koze, “CooCool” is just that – so damn cool. She’s never had the deserved big hits that her catalogue screams but that doesn’t matter, Murphy’s discography stands the test of time and the latest single is testament that she can still make us move and groove like back in the day.

“Home For My Heart” – ArrDee, Cat Burns

Rising U.K. rapper ArrDee joins forces with powerhouse Cat Burns on the instantly hypnotic “Home For My Heart.” Lyrically solid and melodically superb, the single is likely to zoom up the British charts but here’s hoping the single crosses over onto the global charts, as the song is musically compelling and would work on any playlist and fit perfectly on Top 40 radio. Both artists deserve that big single and this delivers, big!
