New Delhi Producer House of Tuneman Conjures the ‘Bombay Bustle’ in New Song
Karan Dhingra takes tech house over konnakol, Indian classical and folk instrumentation, along with African sounds
Electronic music producer House of Tuneman aka Karan Dhingra taps into the pulse of the city that never sleeps on his new song “Bombay Bustle.” The song comes with a kaleidoscopic AI-aided music video made by artist Artmantra.
The artist, who began releasing music in 2020 and has since gone on to perform around the world, says in a statement that “Bombay Bustle” encapsulates the essence of the city. He adds, “[The city is] bustling and chaotic yet [has a] vibrant and colorful life.” Rooted in tech house production, House of Tuneman also incorporates samples of Indian instruments such as bhagpang, tabla and morsing, alongside Carnatic vocals for that fusion sound.
The global sonic scope of “Bombay Bustle” widens even more as the track progresses, with elements of Afro music that draw from Inhaca and Gorongosa, among others. “This eclectic mix paints a vivid sonic picture that transports listeners into the heart of Mumbai’s fast-paced and dynamic lifestyle,” the press release adds.
Visuals comprise all things quintessentially Mumbai, including the local trains, laavni dancers, Bollywood posters, double-decker buses, glimpses of Ganesh Chaturthi processions, famous landmarks accompanied by AI version of Dhingra behind the decks.
As House of Tuneman, Dhingra’s previous releases like “Forest Humms” and “Alchemy” have gained a bit of traction, with the former being part of the VA 2023 compilation from the Indian label Wind Hose Records, run by house music veteran Hamza Rahimtula.
