Iggy Pop Has an Incredibly Strange Christmas Greeting

The rock legend spreads holiday cheer in this bizarre clip

Published by

Most people’s Christmas greetings involve cheesy Hallmark cards, not hot tub stare downs. Then again, most people aren’t rock legend Iggy Pop. In a hilarious (and borderline disturbing) video titled “Merry Christmas message from Iggy Pop,” the unseasonably tan frontman spreads unorthodox holiday cheer in a 21-second spree of weirdness.

With its bizarre editing and general lack of sound, the disorienting clip plays out like a cross between a snuff film and a drunken Vine. After opening with an exterior shot of the Pop household, the video randomly cuts to a brief glimpse of Iggy lounging in a hot tub (while, naturally, wearing a Santa hat). From there, Pop reclines on a couch with small dogs and relaxes with a parrot. But what transforms this bizarre video into a meme-worthy masterpiece is the climax: Pop delivering a devilishly creepy “Merry Christmas” while sitting next to his pool.

It’s unclear exactly what inspired Pop’s holiday masterwork, but the internet sincerely thanks him.

Earlier this year, Pop reunited with the Stooges for the well received album Ready To Die. On the promotional circuit, the frontman proved he hasn’t lost his rebellious streak in a reliably chaotic performance on The Colbert Report.
