iHeartRadio Music Awards 2021: Who Won What?
The Weeknd, Taylor Swift, BTS, Doja Cat and more rule the winners’ list
The Weeknd holds up his iHeartRadio award for Male Artist of the Year.
The iHeartRadio Music Awards, now in its eighth year, aired live on May 28th, from the Dolby Theatres in Los Angeles. Hosted by Usher, the event made a comeback after getting canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, with some brand new categories including ‘Tik Tok Bop of the Year.’
- iHeartRadio Icon Award – Elton John
iHeartRadio presented a special honorary award to the legendary Elton John. The award presentation was followed by tribute performances by Demi Lovato, Brandi Carlile and H.E.R.
2. Song of the Year, TikTok Bop of the Year (Socially Voted Category),
Titanium Song of the Year – “Blinding Lights” by The Weeknd;
Male Artist of the Year, Titanium Artist of the Year – The Weeknd
The Weeknd set the bar a little too high at the iHeartRadio Awards this year with eight nominations and took home three major awards. He and Ariana Grande stole hearts with their first-ever stage performance of the song “Save Your Tears.”
3. Female Artist of the Year – Dua Lipa
Dua Lipa had everyone levitating with a string of pop hits from her recent album Future Nostalgia.
4. Best Collaboration – “Savage” (Remix) by Megan Thee Stallion featuring Beyoncé
Megan Thee Stallion won big once again with the banger “Savage” (ft. Beyoncé). This hip-hop jam, released in 2020, previously earned six other awards, including a Grammy for Best Rap Song.
5. Best Pop Album – Folklore by Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift secured another victory for her alternative-indie studio album Folklore. The pop artist gave a warm surprise to her fans with this home-produced album in June 2020.
6. Best New Pop Artist – Doja Cat
Doja Cat’s exponential rise is no secret to us. Bagging the Best New Pop Artist Award, she is known for her TikTok-famous pop and R&B hits.
7. Best Duo/Group of the Year – Dan + Shay
The American country-pop duo paid tribute to their fans on the iHeartRadio on stage with their most popular ballad, “Glad You Exist.”
8. Best Music Video (Socially Voted Category) – “Dynamite” by BTS,
Favorite Music Video Choreography (Socially Voted Category) – “Dynamite” by BTS – Son Sung Deuk,
Best Fan Army (Socially Voted Category) – #BTSARMY – BTS
No music event is complete without the contribution of BTS. The South Korean group received massive support from the #BTSARMY through social media and won three Socially Voted Category awards.
9. Alternative Rock Song of the Year – “Level Of Concern” – twenty one pilots,
Alternative Rock Artist of the Year – twenty one pilots
“Level of Concern” became the biggest alternative song of 2020, complete with a music video shot at the alt-rock duo’s respective homes. Twenty One Pilots smashed the record of the longest run YouTube livestream with their hit single streamed on loop for 4,264 hours, 10 mins and 25 seconds, which finally ended on Dec 16th.
10. Best Lyrics (Socially Voted Category) – “Adore You” by Harry Styles,
Best Cover Song (Socially Voted Category) – “Adore You” by Harry Styles, Lizzo cover
“Adore You” is a funk-pop retro track by musician and fashion icon Harry Styles released in 2019, which became an instant fan-favorite and TikTok bop, even finding the fancy of powerhouse artist Lizzo.
